Topic: Unexpected printing stop

Hi,

Sometimes the printer stops print in the middle of a print without any warning.
Someone experience the same thing? I suspects  that is a communication problem with the Mac.

Re: Unexpected printing stop

Sounds like overheating that some people are experiencing. Someone will be along to confirm.

Re: Unexpected printing stop

Really, it is not enough to go on. You can confirm that communications stopped by checking the log. I am not sure that overheating has done much to stop prints, as much as affect the quality of the prints because of inaccurate stepper motor control. The general experiences so far clearly seem to point to more difficulty running the machine with a Mac for many inherent reasons. It definitely seems that osx is the culprit as I have been running prints from the get go on bootcamp with my Mac while doing work in solidworks, slicing in Slic3r, messing around with replicator G, and listening to music simultaneously without ever losing communication. If you can afford a Mac and a solidoodle, it might be worth it to buy an old used laptop on eBay for a few hundred to devote to the printer or do the sd card mod.

Re: Unexpected printing stop

Now I'm using Windows 7 with bootcamp, I will update if it stops again (or not).

Re: Unexpected printing stop

I'm running pronterface on Windows 7 in the last two weeks and the prints are keep stopping sometimes.
I added a fan to cool the motor drivers hope that this is the problem.

Is there any way to continue prints from the stop point? (after I reconnect)

It is possible, but it usually leaves a spot. Is it still doing this? We are always here to help.

Re: Unexpected printing stop

Yep, I can't point the cause of this. There is something else that I can check?
I'm afraid to print large parts that takes long time.

Is pronterface showing errors when the printer steps?

It might say something like "kill call() MIN TEMPS"

Re: Unexpected printing stop

Only "Can't read from printer (disconnected?)."
Then I unplug the USB and plug it again, press the disconnect button,  connect button and I can print again.

Sounds like you might have a faulty board. PM me and I will hook you up with a new board.

Re: Unexpected printing stop

I am having the same problem.  I am using an S3 with a macbook pro (mountain lion), and during longer prints the machine would freeze and stop.

The S3 becomes unresponsive to commands through repetier and I have to click "disconnect" before I can gain control of the s3 again.

In the mean time, the S3 heating bed and extruder remain at high (operating) temperatures, so now I'm hesitant to leave my s3 by itself whilst printing.

Here's a copy of the print log.  As you can see, it froze at 5:25 in the morning.  at 9:34 I clicked disconnect in repetier.

5:25:28 AM: Printing layer 171 of 519
  9:34:29 AM: Connection closed

Does anyone have a solution?  And is there a way to reset the machine and continue to print where the print stopped, so I don't waste half a print?

cheers

Check your power settings, don't let anything go to sleep.

Ok, I'll be first to admit my mistakes. I found that i had incorrectly set the baud rate. It was 256000 instead of 250000. It seems to be fine now.

I hope this helps others who have made the same mistake.

Re: Unexpected printing stop

I found the cause of the problem smile
When someone turn on & off the light switch of the bathroom near my room the connection is immediately stops
even when the printer is connected to UPS.
It is probably some interference from the florescent transformator, we need to replace it.

Re: Unexpected printing stop

I've had the same thing happen when I unplugged a soldering iron or AC fan from the same power strip as the SD while it was running.  It never happened after I upgraded to the Azteeg X3 board, so there seems to be something about the Sanguinololu that makes it susceptible to power fluctuations.

I'm not aware of a particular issue with the board that matches with this.

OP: is the issue still giving you trouble?

Re: Unexpected printing stop

I have the same problem and it was a bitch to figure out on my part.
The problem for me was when I turned off a light switch on the adjacent wall ( my toilet ) the printer stopped. I guess it has something to fo with power spikes in my case, buy maybe more have the same problem.

So try turning the lights on/off in other rooms and see if the printer stops. I know it sounds strange, but thats what did it for me.

Re: Unexpected printing stop

I have had this happen to me multiple times today. I am running off an sd card from the Panelolu, and my prints stop at different points, the LCD displays that it is sleeping, then ends the print after a sleep timer counts up to 100. The connections to my thermistor were suspect, but I will have to try and turn off/on some lights to see if I can trigger a sleep.

You should get a USB cable with ferrite chokes:

Re: Unexpected printing stop

It happened also to me, with my brand new SD3. In two days, 2 of 6 prints was with that problem. I've replaced the USB cord as you recommended and I'll see if it occur again.
Thanks for advice.

Re: Unexpected printing stop

I've found that my 10 years old laptop (256 MB RAM) was of blame for those interrupts. I've replaced it with an 7 year old laptop (512 MB RAM) and since then I do not encounter such problem.

Re: Unexpected printing stop

I've had this same issue, except it seems to be that when it happens RH exits presumably after some time so I couldn't work out what was going on. I have caught it die once or twice and there has been no error code in RH before the window disappears into the ether. It actually freezes RH, and when you open it back up it wont connect, so same as OP, you have to remove USB, and reconnect for it to work.
I found that some errors in models being sliced with Sli3er seem to have caused this problem. One model kept dying at a similar spot.
I fixed the file with Netfab cloud and still had issues, so I downloaded and set up Kisslicer, and haven't had this issue since (touch wood). I was also getting "run out of memory" errors with Sli3er with some models (I have 3Gb of ram o.O), but since changing over not so much of an issue.

Re: Unexpected printing stop

The stop of printing may arise due to two main reason. The usb cable problems and paper jam. The paper quality and size  should be checked before printing to avoid paper jam.
