Topic: No connection

I'm reporting in that I have the unable to connect problem.  I've tried installing the software on 2 different computers one with Win8 64 bit and one with Win7 64 and neither will connect although they have different problems.  The win7 computer shows a COM1 port and I select it but the solidoodle doesn't seem to be answering commands.  The win8 laptop did not show any Ports regardless of driver installation procedures.  I have decided that I am irritated at Win8 and so my first action is to reinstall win7 64 bit as a fresh install and try again.  I'll let you know how it goes but in the mean time do you guys have any suggestions for settings and/or procedures for win7 64bit to make this dummy proof?  Thanks in advance guys.

It will probably not be the com1 port should be com3 or com4 or higher what drivers have you installed? and any patches for windows?

There can be some issues that appear to be connection or driver issues that are not.  When I received my SD3 the copper wire was not in the connector for the hotend thermistor. All along the issue appeared to be driver/connection related, but once I rewired the connector all was well. I wouldn't reinstall your OS until you thoroughly check your printer and determine it is not the issue....just my .02

E3D-v4 Hotend, MK5 carriage with round plastic wire conduit , 3/16" tempered glass,  Well nut, SureStepr SD8825 1/32 Extruder Driver, PowerEdge 2650 500W PS, QU-BD heated bed, circuit board fan, hinged plexiglass enclosure with plastic tray top. Other than that mostly stock SD3

Thank you I appreciate you looking out for me.  I will check that wiring.  I build computers like most people tie their shoes so it's no big deal for me to nuke an OS that isn't behaving.  I will tell you one thing though.. I've wanted to kill that Windows8 installation for months I couldn't stand it.

I've been building my own PCs since high school, but doesn't mean I want to do a total wipe if I don't have to smile  Just don't expect your SD to be 100% out of the box. I know it's advertised as such, but that is not necessarily the case. I posted a pic of my wiring issue (out of box) at the bottom of this thread. Mileage may very, but if you installed the correct drivers and made the necessary changes in the Repetier printer settings then I would look at the printer before suspecting the OS.

After re installing windows7 64 bit and installing the drivers everything seems to be working fine.  I checked over the wiring and that seems fine as well.  I think we are good to go.
