Topic: Modified Fan mount for J-Head

I've installed a J-head extruder on our SD2 and it's working great, but it needed a fan back on it for .1mm layers and PLA. I had used Ian Johnson's ducted 40mm mount, but that had needed modification with the original extruder head as it wouldn't fit under the x-carriage. The new J-head is shorter than the original extruder so the new fan duct for it needed some major mods to avoid the x-carriage and still direct air around the the rear of the hot end. It also needed to be able to direct air directly at the cooling fins of the J-head to compensate for the duct being in front of it.

Here are some pictures of the finished mod mounted to my modified Lawsy MarkIV extruder mount (which the J-head fits beautifully).

Re: Modified Fan mount for J-Head

Here is the STL of the duct. Be aware that the spacing of the mounting boss has been modified from Lawsys original MKIV mount.

I've included my modified MKIV. The mounting bosses in the extruder mount are designed to be tapped for M4's.

Re: Modified Fan mount for J-Head

My biggest complaint after I upgraded to the j-head was that there was no good fan duct that worked with it. Well, here we are.
Good stuff here.
