Topic: How to disassemble and break the extruder

Hi all!

After a couple of happy months with the SD3 we diagnosed a hot clog:(
Tried to remove it by using a thin wire, but that didn't solve the problem:/
I was going to warm up the barrel to burn out bad ABS.
But ABS had emerged out between the PEEK and the brass barrel, so it was really stuck. This caused a slight problem when trying to disassemble it. This video show the process:

I think the clog was caused by a hot extruder without filament throughput. Any extruder heating guidelines?
Should extruder heat always be turned off between prints (2-5min)?

Re: How to disassemble and break the extruder

I always heat mine with a hand torch and  unscrew it by hand with mittens.
Heat the tip 1st  and unscrew it from the peek. you will know it is hot enough when you can unscrew it. Too hot and you will melt the peek
Next double nut the barrel and lock the nuts together.
Heat the tip again holding the nuts with pliers and unscrew the tip.
Clean with acetone and torch.
I have a 6mm thread tap and die clean up the threads as needed

Reassemble without heat and tighten by hand.

Okey!
Thanks for the method:)

I didn't want to heat up the nozzle because I was afraid of damaging the wooden plate..
Do you shield it in anyway when heating just the nozzle?
