I had chance to see another SD2 at a friends company. They hadn't set it up or anything so I offered to set it up and get it running for them.
45 minutes later after installing all the necessary software it was up and running.
What bothered me was that the fan on their extruder began blowing immediately upon plugging the unit in.
Is this normal?
on my Sd2, I have never seen or heard this fan go on before
I assume you are talking about the cooling fan on the back of the hotend? Mine is always on if the machine is plugged in.
Mine is always on as well.
Yes, that fan goes to a always on 12v pin and should always be on as soon as external power is provided to the arduino (meaning more than the usb)
Check the connector on the main board, in my case, the connector was not properly attached. My SD3 has two black cables coming from the extruder head area that belong to the fan unit.
Hi Jazgeek, Some of the fans are 'noisy'= bad bearings, and you will notice then right away yours may have a better fan that is quieter so you didn't notice it.
mine is not on at all. I will check connector when I get back home
