My SD3 has two black cables coming from the extruder head area that belong to the fan unit.

45 minutes later after installing all the necessary software it was up and running.

What bothered me was that the fan on their extruder began blowing immediately upon plugging the unit in. 

Is this normal?

on my Sd2, I have never seen or heard this fan go on before
