There are only two controlled fan ports on your board. 1.24 and 2.5 so you would have to connect the layer fan to 2.5 and set the host to turn it on after 1 or 2 layers are printed. The issue will be the issue you had earlier and that will be getting the host to control port 2.4.

now can you have the host control multiple fans? I notice there’s only one fan in the manual settings there. Is it possible to add another fan into that.

Also can you suggest a good power supply? I want something that’ll be over kill that I won’t have to worry about again.

The extruder fan should be hard wired to the power supply so it is always on. The layer fan should be connected to the controlled line so it can be turned on after x layers.

As for power supply you are limited to what they call and ITX or FLEX ATX supply and I think the max wattage I could find was 250. I do see a 270 on Newegg. The main thing is to mach the physical dimensions unless you want to mount it external. If you want to mount external then any supply that can do 12 volts will work on your system.

Here is a 400 watt if the physical dimensions are the same.

Would 400 watts be more than enough for anything I’m going to do with this printer? What’s the stock power supply wattage just curious

It is either 200 or 225. There is a label on it if you take it out. When I upgraded mine years ago I used a 250 as nothing higher was available then. The 250 was fine I had no light pulsing during heating which means your power supply is on the edge of not being strong enough.

Which lights were pulsing? I just noticed if I head the bed and the extruder at once the extruder literally warms up .1 at a time very slowly.

When the old board was in and the stock lights worked they would would pulsate slightly when the machine was running and the hotend was cycling to keep hot. You would only notice it if you looked from the corner of your eye. Straight on it was hard to see.

What it meant though was that with all things running it was getting dangerously close to the supplies current or wattage limit.

Re: Da Vinci 1.0 Azteeg x5 WiFi Build

*edit* Before I ask my other questions.. I would really like to be able to use sli3er as my slicer. I have it downloaded on my laptop. Honestly just like the honeycomb infill. How do I do this, I see it in my slicer list on repetier but when I try to generate a g code I get a error with slic3er

How do the speed setting look below? What should I modify? Again this is going to be my PETG settings.

http://soliforum.com/i/?L6lqdwz.jpg

Under the extrusion tab in curaengine settings just needed some input on what settings should be at what for a good base line default for PETG.

http://soliforum.com/i/?TPVNXo4.jpg

under G-Codes what do I modify to allow my cooling fan to kick on at a certain layer?
Should I include any of type of commands at the start or end of the code?

Re: Da Vinci 1.0 Azteeg x5 WiFi Build

Slicer is already installed with Repetier host it is not an external program nor does it need to be installed. Just click on the slicer tab, then when in the slicer window you will see a drop down box with three choices in it right below the SLICE button. just click that and select Slic3r and it will use slicer as your slicer instead of Cura.

If you have tried to link Repetier to the one you installed then that is most likely the source of your issue and you will probably have uninstall slicer and Repetier then reinstall Repetier and not slicer to correct the issue.

As for the speed drop the slow speeds all to 25 and it should be fine. I would bump your retraction speed up to 80. PETG does like to ooze.

Travel speed is fine. It does not affect print quality as it is only moves that are made while not printing.

The START and END Gcode depends on what you want to happen. The START usually puts the nozzle at a certain z above the bed if needed. This is where your offset is put. It may turn on a fan as well.

The END is where you would put homing commands and turning off the heaters and such. If you put nothing here the print will just stop with the nozzle in contact with the print and still heating when it ends. This is where most add the command to move the bed to the bottom as well to make removal of the print easier.

If you list exactly what you want in START and END we can then make the commands and format to put in to those boxes.

I’d like the layer fan to kick on after the first 3 layers. And for the nozzle to make a purge line before the print. Then home and drop the bed at end of the print also shutting off the heater and shutting the layer fan off.

I am at work right now. Will be getting off in about 30 minutes. Once I get home I can get my START and END gcodes from Simplify3D. They do most of what you want. The layer fan is controlled by the host.

I will have to look at Repetier when I get home as well to see how to implement that with your setup. I need to find out anyways as my upgrade will have a layer fan as well. Although mine will be done with Simplify3D.

Ok so Repetier only allows control of one fan and that is the fan they consider a layer fan. However it only controls the speed and does not allow as far as I can see for that speed to change at a certain point or layer.

I have not used Repetier in ages since a good soul here gave me a copy of the older liberated version of Simplify3D. It is missing profiles and support, as well as no support for dual head but I can live with that. With S3D you can set it to cause all kinds of things to happen at various layers. Fan on, fan off, print speed changes, even change the infill types at a certain point if you want.

As for START gcode, this is mine:

G28 ; home all axes
G1 Z2 F1000 ; position Z axis 2mm above home.

And this is my END Gcode:

M104 S0 ; turn off extruder
M140 S0 ; turn off bed
G28 X Y ; home X and Y axes
G1 Z150 F1000 ; move Z to 150
M84 ; disable motors

For your layer fan, so it only runs during printing you can add M106 to turn the fan on to the START and add M107 to turn the fan off to the END.

Mine would be totally different and actually fail as I don't use thermistors. My machine is a clone of a Makerbot Dual and they use thermocouples. They cannot not be auto tuned by PID as they do not even work the same. A thermistor has resistance that changes with temperature while thermocouple generates a small electrical signal that varies with temperature and is able to stand much higher temps than thermistors.

Re: Da Vinci 1.0 Azteeg x5 WiFi Build

Okay guys, so I started my first real print trying to print a 20mm cube. I’m having a few issues. First issue is that my nozzle once almost up to temp starts to ooze filament out with then as soon as the print starts that ooze causes the first layer to screw up.. is there a fix for this ooze issue? Also how do I code in a purge line before the print.

Next issue, the print first layer actually does pretty well but then we get into the next few layers and it seems like filament is just piling up quick and the nozzle is embedded in the previous layers. It’s plowing through the print and flowing way to much it seems like. I have my flow rate at 100 percent and my speeds at 25 low 35 high, first layer speed is 15.

Also how do I code in a purge line before the print.

In slicer under (print settings )  (skirt and brim)

loops 3
distance 5
Hieght 1 layer
min length 10 mm

brim 0 or off
Definitely laying down too much material.

try increasing speeds or back off on the flow rate.

Also make sure your default extrusion width is set for 0.48 in advance settings for a 0.40 nozzle.  This is a very important setting

I see now you are using cura the skirt setting are a little different but there. And the 10 mm min is likely a bit low.

Tin, keep in mind he is using PETG. It cannot be printed faster than 35mm per sec. It is one of the few materials that require a slow print speed or you get horrible strings and your print will be hairy.

Re: Da Vinci 1.0 Azteeg x5 WiFi Build

Ok first thing, get rid of the raft. You should not need it. If you want to purge and get a good flow just setup a skirt in your slicer. Set it for 1 layer and 3 wide and a few mm offset from your print. That will put a small frame around the print to get a flow started.

Next is that 20mm cube actually 20mm it looks very small to me and that is the point of this test. We still need to calibrate your motors and they may be trying to squeeze a 20mm cube into less than 20mm.
