Topic: Best temperature and first few layers

I just got my SD3 yesterday and so far things have been pretty good.  I do have a quick few questions that I think that someone here can easily answer.

1. The first few layers are a little wider than the rest (very minimal).  I'm trying to print something that is pretty precise and was wondering if there is anything I can do to fix this.  Would making my temperature hotter or cooler help or could it be that the z axis is slightly out of alignment.

2. From some of the prints that I have done (and others that I have seen on here) there have been a few strands of plastic that go from one point to another.  What is the best thing that can be done to minimize these?  Would this be a temperature issue, a retraction issue, or both?

Thanks

Re: Best temperature and first few layers

In theory the hotter the plastic is the better it bonds but going too hot makes it runny.  I usually print the first layer at 195 then go down to 185 for the rest of the layers.

As for the strings thats a retraction issue.  What are you using for retraction settings?

Re: Best temperature and first few layers

I am using the default retraction settings for a SD3.  I was able to fix the fatter bottom layers by adjusting my bed height.  On 1mm prints the strands are much better than at 3mm.
