Topic: You can't have any pudding if you don't use your meat thermometer

Has anyone played with attaching a thermometer to the heater block for direct readings? Maybe drill a 2MM (or whatever) hole in the block to insert a cut down digital meat thermometer?

I used to have a lot of trouble with the PEEK J-Heads overheating and melting, so I drilled a hole in one of them and taped a type K thermocouple into it and monitored the temp with my multimeter.  That would probably be the best approach if you are looking to get a second opinion on hot end temp.  Also while heating my enclosure I taped the thermocouple so it would dangle near the nozzle so I could track the ambient temp at the print where it mattered.
