Re: E3D Lite Hot End Conversion

Dont understand what all this thermistor talk is about ???

Installed the E3D Lite 12v Direct kit and...voila
printed ABS, PLA (no fan), Taulman 910 nylon, Taulman Bluprint and Ninja Semiflex using manufacturers stated print temps.

Yeah, I was a bit stumped by that too.
I was expecting some issue but it worked fine first time with no changes to repetier.
The E3D thermistor is a standard 100k, same as the Davinci thermistor.

A Da Vinci motherboard however has a 59K ohm resistor in  parallel with the thermistor which changes it's final value at the board and at the input of the AD converter. So in affect the table should be 5 that is selected instead of 1 to compensate for the added resistor. If you do the math the board actually sees 79.5 K ohm resistance at room temp instead of 100K.

Re: E3D Lite Hot End Conversion

So the DAV is setup wrong from the factory ? Not being cynical, dont understand why this exactness is focused on imprecise equipment.

For me settings are like 1-10. Different paths for the same result.

Not going fuss about this too much, considering my modded, inexpensive machine prints as well as a $2800 one.
Maybe 1/2 as fast, more down time repairing, but for the money I can buy 6 machines and print 3x faster.

It's not setup wrong, it setup by XYZ to make it harder to install 3rd party parts..

There's no such thing as a "standard 100k" - 100k thermistors are 100k ohms at 25C, but their resistance at say 200C is a function of their beta value. Your setup is off by 10-20C, you're just used to it. All it impacts is your ability to copy another user's temperature settings and expect the same results.

Re: E3D Lite Hot End Conversion

Well, this thread has now got me thinking more about extruder temps.

My early version DAV 1.0 mod w/ E3D hotend prints ABS YL filament well at 255.
Yeah , seems alittle high. But, it adheres well w/ no splits.

New acquired DAV 1.0A, 0 hrs, Repetier FW 0.92, Host 1.60 and Cura slicer.
Original hotend.
Same filament, same Cura setup, 1st test 25mmx25mm25mm print at 217. Solid.

Thats a big diff in temp readings.

I may try table 5 as suggested. Though, not understanding this totally.
But know that it doesnt change the temp, but rather how the board reads.
I see in the configuration.h tab, EXT0_TEMPSENSOR_TYPE
Change to 5.
Is that correct ??

Re: E3D Lite Hot End Conversion

That's correct.  The thermistor just changes resistance with a temp change.  The table is what sets a given resistance to a certain temp number.  Wrong table=wrong temp displayed.
