Topic: GRBL?

Does anyone know if the Solidoodle 2 (with the newer board) can run GRBL?

Re: GRBL?

Not sure about that...but if you're thinking of converting it to a milling machine setup, see this link:

I'm not fond of hanging the live hot end on the frame of the machine...there must be a better workaround.

Re: GRBL?

I am actully adding on a L-Cheapo laser, I was told the GRBL might allow for greyscale images...but the idea to have my Solidoodle drilling is facinating...now I am distracted haha... I wonder if anyway to do that milling machine mod without removing your extruder...hmmm

Re: GRBL?

Seems like space would get real tight real quick if you leave the extruder on...also, the spindle add-on would be rather far out in front and you might start losing some valuable working area along with some structural stability.

Also, thinking through it further, I don't believe the SD2 would be rigid enough to handle milling anything harder then Ren Foam.

Maybe it's a good idea to stick with lasering!

Re: GRBL?

Well I suppose first I need to deal with the laser mod. getting it is an xmas gift, and then the hard part of making it all work! Seems the hardware end will be easy but the software end will be the tricky part.
