OMG Why don't they just ship the printers out with the Repetier stuff already loaded and ready to go ?!?!?
So as I said mine got bricked last night as well, mid-update... so I took the plunge and decided to go ahead and flash it over to use Repetier and after a bit of jiggery pokery I am back printing and now 100 times better than with the XYZ software and firmware.... it's like a whole new world now lol.
Big thing I've noticed is I don't have to have any glue or tape on the bed for the ABS to stick.... being able to set the temp on the bed and extruders is awesome !!! Not to mention I can now use any filament I want and even replace a spool in mid print if it runs out.
Quick Rundown of what I did on my DaVinci Duo:
1. Turned the printer off, unplugged the USB cable and removed the back panel to expose the mainboard
2. Used a pair of tweezers to short JP1
3. While still shorting JP1 I turned the power back on
4. Downloaded and installed Arduino 1.6.5 r2 for Windows ( this is where you get the USB Drivers )
5. Downloaded 2 more files: Arduino 1.5.8 Windows and Repetier Firmware 0.92 Master
6. Extracted both of the above files to the desktop
7. Turned the printer on, connected the USB cable and it showed up as a Bossa Com Port
8. Went to the Arduino 1.5.8 folder and ran the program, loaded the Repitier project and flashed it.
9. Using the new menu on the printer saved it to the EEPROM
10. Downloaded and installed the latest version of Repetier
At this point it's a matter of playing around to get the right settings for your printer. Calibration is about the same except for the units of measure are different.
It's working, I'm happy, and my fiance isn't complaining that I have a fancy doorstop anymore.
