Re: working gun made with 3D printer

Concerned people throw a fit about this because the media throws a fit about this...

I am in no way pro or anti guns, I have a neutral stance, guns are tools, much like a hammer or even more dangerous, a percussion nail gun, it can be used for good or bad.

If people would think about it, guns can come from anywhere & be made from anything. Gunpowder can be made with home made ingredients, as can primers. Guns can be made from a spring loaded ringer off of a commercial mop bucket. From plumbing and a spring, from a pipe & a hammer...

The fact that guns can be fully 3D printed is of little concern to me personally. I'm more worried about the criminals that know how to manufacture rounds than the guns, and since rounds cannot be 3D printed as of today, I'm not worried.

Read the responses from the article, heck, any article about printed guns.... Shows how reliant people are on the media.

This freedom tastes just like slavery.
It's a selling point.

Not true.  However, I will spare the countless people that will waste ridiculous money to do it.

If you can't afford to make the world a better place, you probably can't afford to make it a worse place.

Re: working gun made with 3D printer

Even in the US, I'd avoid printing guns.

It's a hot button topic right now, and there's no real way to stop people being able to get the technology or the STL files anymore. The only option is deterring people from doing this with harsh sentencing for illegal printing of guns. They'll be looking to make an example of people they catch doing this.

In the UK, where I am, you get a minimum 20 years for a firearms offence, and I suspect they'd be pushing for the maximum. That's a heck of a risk, specially when you can't buy ammo in any case without a firearms licence.

Printing a firearm in the US is legal as long as it's not sold.

From the readme for the Liberator:

How to legally assemble the DD Liberator:
-Print (ONLY) the frame sideways (the shortest dimension is the Z axis).  USC18 922(p)(2)(A)*: "For the purposes of this subsection (The Undetectable Firearms Act of 1988) - the term 'firearm' does not include the frame or receiver of any such weapon;"
Thus, you can legally print ONLY the frame entirely in plastic, even without 3.7 ounces of steel.

-Once the frame is finished, epoxy a 1.19x1.19x0.99" block of steel in the 1.2x1.2x1.0" hole in front of the trigger guard.  Add the bottom cover over the metal if you don't want it to show.

-Once the epoxy has tried, the steel is no longer removable, and is an integral part of the frame.  Now your gun has ~6 ounces of steel and is thus considered a 'detectable' firearm.  So now you can print all the other parts.

He accomplished what he set out to do.

"Defense Distributed told Forbes that the files have already been downloaded more than 100,000 times in the two days since they were uploaded. The largest number of downloads initially were to addresses in Spain, followed by the US, Brazil, Germany and the UK."

^watch out if your in Spain...

Re: working gun made with 3D printer

Not like it would be a hard design for someone to recreate, or even improve upon. Aside from that, it really is stupid that there is such a fit about gun control and printable guns. a forked piece of wood and surgical tubing with rocks has no regulations, is quiet and just as deadly at close range.
Which, by the way, that gun is only good for 50-100 ft as it is a .380 with virtually no barrel. Just a more powerful projectile and a lot more noise than a slingshot.
Sorry, but the controversy is stupid.

could you please link this article I have seen no report where someone has broken US or any other national law with a 3d printed gun

as to the range of a 3d gun you are talking an accurate range of no more than 10-15 feet and that is it hitting a man sized target. this will not be accurate. yes the bullet may gofurther but it will not be amiable beyond only a few yards

it's magic smoke to make a "story"... as he said sonner, they didn't bring bullets with them... so ..

all the noise around this printed gun is so stupid for a useless gun...

Re: working gun made with 3D printer

i think the whole uproar is stupid you need to have some brains to use a 3d printer first off, secondly its a single shot gun its like a more powerful sling shot
