Re: Taurino Power + RAMPS 1.4 Bundle install

I'm just trying to cover all the bases...Here is a pic of the connection at the motor. It has six terminals, but only four are used. The press wouldn't happen to be wired different and the wrong ones are being used would it?

Re: Taurino Power + RAMPS 1.4 Bundle install

Well, I purchased the power supply suggested, but still having the exact same issues. Totally bummed.

Re: Taurino Power + RAMPS 1.4 Bundle install

Let's see how you have the Power Supply wired.  Can you post a pic of both the Ramps and the PSU wiring?

Re: Taurino Power + RAMPS 1.4 Bundle install

Try this wiring scheme instead:

http://soliforum.com/i/?yFaGdll.jpg

Of course, keep the polarity correct!

And make sure your new Power Supply is actually putting out 24V.  Measure it at the screw terminals and adjust with the small trimpot on the side if necessary.  Set it to 24.5V

Re: Taurino Power + RAMPS 1.4 Bundle install

In addition I would clean up those stray strands you have sticking out.. Those are dangerous. Preferably you want to crimp on ring or spade terminals for the power supply and you should put solder on the ends that get screwed down on the board side. If you don't have terminal then put solder on the power supply end as well. It makes a more solid connection and keeps stray strands out of the way.

Re: Taurino Power + RAMPS 1.4 Bundle install

It does have a ground, just wasn't hooked up. 10-4 on the soldered wires. There is 24.5V. I hooked it up as described. Didn't change anything. It's very hit and miss on what happens. When anything happens at all they just groan. Again, sometimes it wont do anything. Another thing, ever since I uploaded the new firmware suggested, the hot end no longer heats up.

Re: Taurino Power + RAMPS 1.4 Bundle install

Here's another question....or two. I tested the terminals for the motors at the board without repetier host even running. They all read 0 volts, except for the X axis, it reads 24.5V all the time. Is that right? Also, I only use 4 of the stepper drivers, so should I remove the fifth from the board?
Thanks for all the help.

Re: Taurino Power + RAMPS 1.4 Bundle install

yet, another thing I was wondering. I am using the factory motor wires because I need the ends to plug into the factory motors. They are not color coded, instead they have a series of dashes. The middle two, I presume are commons (?), are reversed just before going into the board. could this have anything to do with my issues?

Re: Taurino Power + RAMPS 1.4 Bundle install

Let me ask you at any time have you had the stepper drivers installed and the board powered up without the motors connected?

That stepper driver is probably dead then. You cannot have stepper drivers powered up with no motor attached..

Now try swapping those middle wires on one of the axis and see if that helps. On a stepper you don't have common.
You have phases and they are usually denoted as A+ A- and B+ B- or A1 A2 B1 B2. You can look at a diagram or the board may even be marked for it's connections. For the motor you would need to google it's model number but most stepper motors follow the same standard pin out of a1 a2 b1 b2.

You can confirm which two wires are a pair by unplugging the harness from the board then shorting pairs together on the harness and turning the motor. If you have the right two wires shorted for a pair/phase then you should feel some resistance when you try to turn the motor. You can also use a meter and measure from wire to wire. The two with least resistance should be a phase/pair.

I did that, and this is what it showed.

What about X having 24.5V all the time?

Re: Taurino Power + RAMPS 1.4 Bundle install

I'm afraid bad things are happening to this board. There is now a yellow led on the bottom board that was never on before. The computer no longer finds it when I plug in the USB either.

142

Re: Taurino Power + RAMPS 1.4 Bundle install

I would double-check that...are you sure that (working from the bottom up) wires 1 and 4 are a pair; and wires 3 and 6 are a pair?

Another way to check is to jump the connector at the RAMPS side of the connector by inserting a paper clip into positions 1 and 2 and checking the motor torque, and then 3 and 4...

Re: Taurino Power + RAMPS 1.4 Bundle install

there is resistance turning the motor when I put 1 and 2 together. Also resistance when 3 and 4 are together

Re: Taurino Power + RAMPS 1.4 Bundle install

That sounds correct. I would try swapping 3 and 2 at the board end since the RAMPS may have it different from the original board.

Ok, thank you for that. I'm still trying to figure out the 24V X axis being hot all the time; and now the yellow led that came on and my computer no longer being able to find the card

Re: Taurino Power + RAMPS 1.4 Bundle install

If you no longer have the yellow LED and the PC no longer sees the printer then it sounds like you may have something backwards loading down the power supply. Are all your stepper drivers plugged in correctly?

Can you post a pic of this LED? Not sure what it would be without knowing location as the board should have several.
