Topic: Fuse for 12 volt extruder

Does anyone know if there is a fuse for the 12 volt power supply that goes to the extruder? I had a broken wire and was checking to see if there was power going to the extruder heater and accidently let the leads touch and now the tere is no power coming to the extruder heater.

Re: Fuse for 12 volt extruder

They use a zero ohm surface mount resistor in place of a fuse. It is near the large white connector on the main board and I believe they are marked R24 and R25. There are actually two.

Hey carl, do they use zero ohm resisters as fuses near each power input source? I wanted to confirm before I try to repair an old mb

Is this the resistor I need to replace? And do I need to do R 24 also? Can you tell me if this is a newer or older board.  I have seen where they say the SD card is on the back  how are mine is on the front as you can see in the picture.

That is a newer board. The older boards used a full size SDcard mounted at the right end. As for the resistor you need to get a meter that can measure resistance and confirm it is bad. It should measure no higher than  10 ohms if it is good.

Re: Fuse for 12 volt extruder

Hi guys, can anyone tell me the value or the number that is printed on R25? I can't make it out in the photo. I tried shorting this out and in so doing lost the resistor. The bed and extruder are now over heading, I'm thinking the MOSFET is permanently switched on.

Re: Fuse for 12 volt extruder

First Carl thanks for all your help. Now I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed. But with my volt meter set as in this picture I'm getting a reading of 9.95 on R25. Is that what it should be? If it is can you tell me what else I should check?http://soliforum.com/i/?NY0aEvG.jpg

Re: Fuse for 12 volt extruder

103 is what I see as the number

10

Re: Fuse for 12 volt extruder

I get 10.06 k ohms in circuit

Re: Fuse for 12 volt extruder

R25 is not the right resistor. You are looking for a 0 ohm resistor and it will be marked as 0 or 000. A marking of 103 is 10,000 or 10Kohm. R24 was on the original board. This is a newer board.  Not sure what the correct reference mark is on the new board.

The meter is set on the 20K scale so your reading would indicate 9.95K ohms which is correct for a resistor marked 103. Sorry I can't help more but I have no experience with the new board.

Re: Fuse for 12 volt extruder

I just fixed my extruder it. here is what I did.
I used a 4 amp fuse to protect the circuit from damaging anything else in case of a catastrophic disaster.  4 amps at 12v =48 watts that the heater should never exceed

Re: Fuse for 12 volt extruder

Just making an educated guess as a tech I am going to guess the resistor we are looking for on the new board is this one I marked.

Re: Fuse for 12 volt extruder

Hey carl that resister mesures as a 10k (r20).

the photos I supplied are from my aio board the pcb is a different color but it is the new board.

I think he wants to check r279, r280 and r281

(deleted my other post with the photo of my board that had wrong numbers to look to help keep it clearer as to what one to look at)

Re: Fuse for 12 volt extruder

I like your fuse. hmm wonder if I should just put one inline.

I think it is safer to run a fuse.

Re: Fuse for 12 volt extruder

It would save having to fix the main board. What amp fuse are you using. I don't know how much the heater can pull so not sure what value to use.
