Topic: [UPGRADE]: Vibration Dampeners - Loud printer? Here's a solution!

So I took some time the other night to design and test some rubber vibration reducers that go between the frames and the steppers. I have seen (heard lol) significant reductions in vibrations after installing these. So I figured I should share the love!

These are printed out of black NinjaFlex.

WILL SHIP INTERNATIONALLY NOW!

For those who have not upgraded their printers to a ninjaflex compatible hot end I have put together some kits on eBay. The links below are for both the 1.0 and 2.0.

XYZPrinting Da Vinci 1.0 Vibration Reducers / Dampeners

XYZPrinting Da Vinci 2.0 Vibration Reducers / Dampeners

Or for those of you with a compatible hotend you can print them yourselves if you have some ninjaflex lying around.

The two thicker ones are for the Y and Z axis, the medium on is for the X axis, and the thin on is for the extruder stepper.

Are you printers really that noisy? Mine has no dampers at all. I just cut a camping mat the kind you put under a sleeping bag to the foot print of the printer. I sat it on that and I actually have to check to make sure it is still running in the next room due to it being so quite.

Re: [UPGRADE]: Vibration Dampeners - Loud printer? Here's a solution!

As I don't know your exact situation so, I cannot comment on your experience with the Da vinci. I know that my printer has been quite loud from stepper motor vibrations since day one. After I added these then all of my vibration noise was pretty much gone. I have seen a couple posts about people asking how to quite these down and this was my solution so I thought I would share.

Thanks, and I am sure some will appreciate it. This could be just a band aid for a real problem however.

Just a note, your steppers should run relative smooth to where they just make a relaxing hum or buzz. If they are doing different then you may have one or more bad stepper drivers on your mainboard. If your board has the stepper drivers in  sockets like mine and earlier models it might be worth it to swap the X, Y ,and Z stepper drivers for the Extruder driver while running a print each time. Then you could figure out which one it is and get a new driver on ebay. You can get them for about 5 bucks each. You just need to confirm the pinouts are the same as they are marked on the driver. There are a few different flavors out there but most are standard of two types.

Does your new hot end also print in ABS and PLA?

Would like to see a write-up on what head and mount and what is all involved on upgrading.

Thanks

Yes his prints both and can even print Polycarbonate. As for a guide, there are several already posted here. Just look a little, there are two I know of that use fully printed custom X - carriages and there is at least one maybe two that just required some printed parts and a few mods to the existing carriage. Of course you will also have to switch to Repetier Firmware and use Repetier Host or Simplify 3D.

I made the switch to Repetier a few days ago and would like to upgrade to a better hot end.

I read several posts on upgrades but most were incomplete and did not specify what model hot end and where they purchased.

The majority are E3D V6 from their official site. The others are the PICO by B3 Innovations also from their official site. The final one is the Hexagon which is just a clone of the E3D in a Hexagon shape versus round.

Re: [UPGRADE]: Vibration Dampeners - Loud printer? Here's a solution!

Not trying to hijack the thread but since you talk about hot end upgrade, would you mind sharing your process to be able to print ninjaflex in a clear fashion ? I tried hard to find infos about that but it's pretty much a big mess of infos here an there and there is missing pieces for the puzzle. There is the extruder, the extruder unit, the connectors, the hot end, the bowden setup, fans, driver board, the firmware settings modification... I have no knowledge about all of these and wouldnt end up breaking my printer.

Help would be much appreciated for a begginer in printer modding like me.

Also, if my question becomes popular, it would make a lot of views for your great product wink
Let me know if I ask in the wrong place and I will start a new thread instead.

Regards

They are good, I have quite a bit of experience with steppers and servos. I guess mainly to you and I the Da Vinci is not a loud printer, but to others it is. My self I am a bit on the anal retentive side so everything has to be perfect or I am just not happy lol, thus these dampeners. Even with a fine tuned machine like mine the made a huge difference. My roommate who has a stock Dav1.0 is going to install his shortly here. I may make a quick before and after video to show the difference though.

Re: [UPGRADE]: Vibration Dampeners - Loud printer? Here's a solution!

hehe yeah I was expecting that kind of answer... btw I did read a lot there. I am not lazy you know. Just overloaded an tired these days. Voltivo is down since yesterday ... at least on my side. It shows an SQL error. Bad luck for the weekend.
I know that you probably worked hard to achieve this. So I do since I have this printer.
Anyways, good job and good luck with your product.
Let me know if you want to collaborate further wink

If you have any specific questions just feel free to PM me. I haven't done a write up on my setup since it is very hard to do so because everyone who does it is a little different. Not that I don't want to help, I just know that it wouldn't benefit most people because it would just be a long rambling post about what I have done personally lol.

Re: [UPGRADE]: Vibration Dampeners - Loud printer? Here's a solution!

I just added these to my watch list on eBay. I'll have to look inside my printer when I get home from work to ascertain how much of a job it will be to get them installed.

I have to install my beefed-up bearing mounts someday too so maybe doing both jobs at the same time would work.

They look great!

No problem! I will get them shipped first thing Monday! (at work until after the post office closes today)

Awesome! No rush on shipping, I can only get over to Detroit once a week to pick up packages anyway...

Looking forward to seeing/hearing the difference then.

Cheers,

Re: [UPGRADE]: Vibration Dampeners - Loud printer? Here's a solution!

Since we are talking about our printers noise level, I made a video of mine. Sorry it is sideways but this is more about the sound than the video. The distance ranges from 1 to about 10 feet away at the furthest and as you hear at that point you can just barely hear it. In another room I have to go check on it to make sure it is still running. As of now this printer is still stock except the firmware and the SD card being moved to inside of the print area since I print from the card.

Carl, it wont let me see the video. It says it's private.
Browning, did you noticed a printing improvment after installing your item ?
thanks for your help offering btw. I may use my ticket soon big_smile

Re: [UPGRADE]: Vibration Dampeners - Loud printer? Here's a solution!

I print a lot faster than that alot of the time. You can here how loud it gets on the rapid movements in the video that is how loud mine was pretty much all the time...
