Re: Colorants (masterbatch)
Actually, (I think) he means a higher ratio of the base both times,
Ah thanks, that makes sense. I just was not sure.

Purple @ 32:1 50% blue 50% red
Another one the camera does not represent well.

These colours are looking great, I'll have to buy some colourant next time I order pellets. (shipping just for colourants is expensive to Canada)
I'd just like to say THANKS!!!
Like Ian & Tim & the beta testers, you're one of the greats fors sharing what you learn. I can't wait for June Filastruder so I can start playing.
This exercise you are doing proves that buying the Filastruder is a good move as with a few strategically chosen colours the rainbow is in our grasp...

Have you tried printing with these yet?
I've printed with black, no problems. Seemed to print just like natural.
Have you tried printing with these yet?
I will eventually. I don't see any reason why they would not print.
Just interested in how well they print, I've read before that different colours of filament print different (temperature wise), But I wonder if that's how they are manufactured.

Different manufacturers use different resins in their filament which all have different characteristics at different temperatures.
All of the colors I have made used MG94 as a base with approximately 3 percent colorant so I would expect it to print like uncolored MG94 would.
Hello DepartedPrinter,
Have you had any time to play this week, the photos look great, and I thank you for taking the time to put them up.

He's waiting on a hot end for his solidoodle right now.

This...and my v3 filastruder is not fully built yet (got my fingers crossed for Saturday morning)
Hopefully I will be back up and running soon but I keep getting sidetracked with other projects.
I have used powder as colorant, at this picture red. I extruded without any problem. I have some difficulties with masterbatch.
Print with the natural abs, i will try it with red filament. I have printed natural abs at 200C
What kind of powder did you use? How did you mix it in with the pellets?

I will take the photo of powder tomorrow. We use this powder for any plastic we use, like Pvc, tpu. It's only color pigment. I have put the natural abs in a glass, and put the powder %1-1.5 on the pellets, and shaked it for one minute, so all of the pellets has been colored.
I will take detailed pictures tomorrow
Are you measuring the powder to 1% by weight? I have powdered pigments for coloring soap, I wonder if these would work for coloring plastic as well.

Yes i mesaured it by weight. There is some colorants with oil, but they are making filament extrusion difficult. Also powdered filament seems like color pellets. But it's difficult to measure for 200gr natural abs
This is the powder i used
I extruded some gold last night. I added some white mica to get a metallic sheen, and while you can see it on the pellets in the hopper, it wasn't enough to show in the filament. I'll add some more to the pellets I have left over and see if it improves. The pigment is Yellow Oxide, but I don't know anything more about it. I haven't printed with it yet. The white you can see on the filament is from it being stressed while winding.

Fine. I have also yellow oxide, i will try.
%1.5 wasn't enough while printing, red comes not as extruded.
By the time I was done, the ratio of yellow and mica pigment was closer to 2%. The color was true, but I think it was too much pigment because the extrusion from the printer was rough and uneven. When I got the extrusion multiplier set to give me .42mm walls, it left gaps where there was retraction.
I'm going to pick up a reloading scale (meant for gunpowder) so I can measure less than a gram.

I have done the red color with a %1.5 ratio, and the color of printed parts are light red. I think %2 good for me. We will see
I wonder if it is the size of the particles. Bigger particles will make stronger color, but may interfere more with the bonding of the plastic within the filment.
