Topic: stepper motor step mode

Currently all three steppers are 1.8 degree.On my Rumba board I only have the extruder set to 32 microsteps.I am confused about microsteps and the kind of steppers,1.8 or.9 degree, 200 or 400  step/rev.I don't understand the relationship between  the two.Can anyone enlighten me ? thanks

SD3, E3D hotend,linear bearing on x/y axis',pillow block bearing on y conneting rod, ball bearngs on front y axis, fan on y stepper motor.
