Topic: RepetierHost for Solidoodle v0.82

I have an older Solidoodle 3 (purchased soon after they were released, before they made the switch to Printrboard).  I haven't made any mods to the original controller.  I am trying to get the printer working with a new computer.  I backed up the registry keys, and AppData folders for RH and Slic3r, and moved them to the new computer.  The problem is, I don't have my install files for RH 0.82, which is what I was running on the old computer.

I have downloaded RH 0.85.1 from the Solidoodle Wiki, and RH 0.85.117 from another link I found.  I can see that my config files are being imported correctly, and I can connect with the printer.  That's where the success ends.  Whenever I go to the manual control page of RH, I see that 5 commands are waiting to be executed, but the printer isn't doing anything.  If I try to jog motors or turn on the heaters, it just adds a command to the queue.  I think there may be a mis-match between the firmware on my controller and RH.  I'd much rather just use the legacy version of RH, but I can't seem to find 0.82 anywhere. 

Does anybody have an old install file for it laying around that they could send to me?  If you guys don't think it will fix my issue, are there any other suggestions?  Thanks in advance.

In printer settings/ connection does it show a port or virtual printer?

SD3, E3D hotend,linear bearing on x/y axis',pillow block bearing on y conneting rod, ball bearngs on front y axis, fan on y stepper motor.

It was COM3 on the old computer, which didn't work on the new computer.  I changed it to COM1 on the new computer.  The only two options on the new computer are COM1 and Virtual Printer.

When you plug in the usb cable does make the found hardware sound? Is the new Pc running Windows 8?

It's Windows 7 Pro, and the drivers seem to install correctly when I first plugged the printer in the USB port.

Maybe update to the lastest firmware. I have used the same board that you have, sang 1.4, on my SD3. I did update the firmware but it worked many months with the stock firmware on RH 0.85 .I used it on winxp and win 8 successfully.I just thought of this,in printer setting/ connection, whats the baud rate?  I use 256000. Also have you tried a different usb cable?

I had the printer set on 256000 baud on the old computer, but when I connected it to this computer, I got the message "The parameter is incorrect" ever time I tried to connect.  I checked online and found that the Solidoodle 3 likes 115200 baud.  I tried that, and get my current state...connecting, but I have no control.

I am using the same cable I was using before, so I know that it is operational.  When I made the OP, I was running it through a hub.  Since that may have been corrupting the signal, I just now plugged it directly into the computer.  That didn't fix the problem...same error as before.

Can you provide me a link to the latest firmware for our older model Solidoodle 3's and the instructions for installing it?  I know I upgraded the firmware when I first got this thing, but I have no recollection of how to do it.  The current instructions on the Wiki and Solidoodle's website only refer to the newer board (Printrboard).

Check device manager see if you have the tiny USB drivers Installed and configured correctly they should match the software. If the port is not showing in Rh configuration then the USB port is not communicating with the PC

As I'm sure you have all figured out by now, this was all a PEBKAC error.  The printer was actually on COM4 which finally showed up when I refreshed the ports.  I think that Repetier was trying to connect with my laser cutter, which is an interesting twist.  Wonder if RH can control an Epilog.

D'oh.  Spoke too soon.  I've got the machine up and running, sliced a file, and started it up.  Now I am getting errors on every level (see below).  The printer pauses every time it gets an error, but seems to recover immediately.  The only noticeable side effect are small blobs of filament where the printer pauses.  It's very annoying and time-consuming, though.

The errors are:

15:41:04.656 : Error:checksum mismatch, Last Line: 17804
15:41:04.656 : Resend: 17805
15:41:04.671 : Error:Line Number is not Last Line Number+1, Last Line: 17804
15:41:04.671 : Resend: 17805

It is repeated for several lines per layer.

Aaaaand it completely crapped out on the 73rd layer of 150.

Further investigation on Soliforum indicates that this was caused by another PEBKAC.  I'm doing awesome with this.  I had the baud set to 256000 instead of 250000.  Now she should be right.

Yeah Check sum errors are either baud rate,  or stop bits, or parity, I run all my Serial devices as 8-1-none and whatever baud rate is recommended, it's a toss-up whether to use handshaking on a USB port, some require hardware, kind of strange since technically there isn't true hardware handshaking on USB, Some require software , and some don't require any handshaking at all. Go figure.
