Topic: Vertical banding /stripes / moire reduction

I'm sure this is covered elsewhere but I just wanted to share a recent improvement on my printer.

The following/attached picture is the result of two small changes.  The first was a ~10% change in the extruder steps/mm to reset my multiplier back to 1.  The second was to set all of my acceleration values in my RH printer settings to 2000.  Speed is around 60 mm/s.  The idea is that most of the banding/moire is actually coming from vibrations in the x-y plane as the extruder is moving around and causing jerks which then cause the bed to slide-bounce in the x-y direction.  I'm entertaining the idea of putting another z slide right up front to reduce this.  It would mean pulling prints out from the side of the printer but that's something I can live with if the quality is there.

This is also with the OEM 5/16" diameter Z.  I'll eventually swap for an M5.

Do the rail thing, just put it down the side (or both sides) under the y idler brackets, and an aluminium bar across (similar to the slide suggested in the above linked thread about 2n's printer). Then you don't have anything in the front access area. smile
