Topic: firmware 1.1.j

who's using it?  anyone have any idea what it's supposed to fix or do?

2

Re: firmware 1.1.j

im curious as well, anybody try 1.1.J yet?

hopefully it's better than G and worth upgrading.

3

Re: firmware 1.1.j

hi,
is it compatible with non XYZ filament?
what are the benefits of firmware 1.1j?

4

Re: firmware 1.1.j

From what I have read. J encrypts the chip on the cartridge so you cannot do the reset of the counter.

5

Re: firmware 1.1.j

I thought the chip gets encrypted on firmware I?

6

Re: firmware 1.1.j

Hmmm.... Maybe I misread. Seems silly to be upgrading when the company is trying to keep you from resetting the cartridge. Just waiting for people to iron out issues with new custom firmware and good buy XYZ crappy over priced cartridges.

7

Re: firmware 1.1.j

Well I installed it accidentally so I will let you know if I notice anything. I was on 1.1.F before.

Re: firmware 1.1.j

Seems ok so far. I re-printed the arduino bumper from thingiverse and it came out slightly better (less clean up required). I still want to go to an alternate firmware...just waiting until I see something more stable.

Re: firmware 1.1.j

Here's the link to 1.1.J firmware in case anyone is interested:

if it isn't broken, you haven't modded it enough

me too, custom firmware with some other 3rd party software would be AWESOME.

but so far im loving my 1st 3D printer.

Re: firmware 1.1.j

There is a small difference in the starting routine. Before printing the object it tries to lay down some filament on the side but appears to be too high. This results in no filament sticking to the bed (i did put glue there) and a messy start to the print. This worked fine in 1.1.F

12

Re: firmware 1.1.j

Here is a video of what it is doing post 1.1.J upgrade. It was fine with 1.1.F.

13

Re: firmware 1.1.j

Mthurman, I'd recalibrate the bed.  It may have lost its settings after the firmware upgrade......and that actually makes sense!  I think after my last firmware update it caused me to have to do the same thing.  I thought I had messed the bed up, but it probably was the firmware update clearing it out.

14

Re: firmware 1.1.j

ok, I will give that a try...thanks!

15

Re: firmware 1.1.j

The auto calibration tool gives a wide variety of results on each run with no adjustments? Any other way?

16

Re: firmware 1.1.j

I made adjustments until the auto calibration was a success and now the bed seems too low. Prints are a mess.

Re: firmware 1.1.j

kept trying...better now

Re: firmware 1.1.j

I am on 1.1.G - everything seems to be working great....Should I upgrade to the newest -J ? Does anyone have a list of fixes?

19

Re: firmware 1.1.j

medfoch: id stay on 1.1.G.... Ive updated to J and used a resetted cartridge. The printer would accept the files from xyzware but the machine would then stop and a cartridge error would pop up.

I reverted firmware to G. Im not sure if "it modified/ encrypted" my cartridge. Ive used the "Filament Counter Reset Tool V3 and it seems like The dip switches dosnt change settings on the catridge as advertise anymore... I suspect that maybee it did something to my cartridge but I havent had time to re use the reset tool on a new fresh cartridge yet to see if the dip switches work as intended.

While being on J I saw some neat practical feature like when calibrating it keeps the number up and the overall average of your leveling. Also theres a clean nozzle option that brings the print head to center front and the print bed lower"instead of doing a manual jog and unload cartridge operation to do so"

hope it helps.

Just received my Da Vinci at the weekend, managed to upgrade from 1.1a on my iMac
to 1.1.j after I was sent software 1.0.7 OSx, before it just said invalid firmware binary :-(

Since the update it no longer carries out a calibration every time you send a print, but I have
the same issue as above, where the test strip does not adhere correctly, and then drags itself
to the centre where the print starts.

I have now calibrated the machine with "Success" after many fails, but still have the issue with
the test print (seemed to stick better in 1.1a)

This is what the display now shows, should I keep going to get anything better readings ?

I had the same issue when I first bought my printer as it upgraded to new version during set-up...

Sorry if you have already tired this, but I put UHU glue in the area where it test prints and that seems to hold it in place...

Many thanks, I have tried it, but will perhaps lay it on a bit thicker :-)

Re: firmware 1.1.j

well the glue should not need to be "thick" really. Your calibration numbers look good enough for government work really.  The only thing I can think of is that the metal contact tabs are just a weeee bit sticking up or the actual touch probe is down just a weeee bit too far.

OK, so now what are the issues with the custom repetier firmware?
I have been using it since 5 minutes after it was released and have not looked back.  Something to note is that I do not use auto calibrate, I just use paper and calibrate to the glass on the custom firmware. The first layer then needs to be touched up on the edges but I have no adhesion issues even on large prints.

Most all of my prints are mechanical assemblies and must fit together.  I will see if I can get a good video up of my finishing kit within the next few days.

Re: firmware 1.1.j

I had no problem resetting the cartridge after I or J. I was even able to print with a reset cartridge on I but with the J update, it slows the extrusion speed down to make printing impossible if using a reset cartridge. Problem was solved as soon as I dropped down toe firmware G. Seems they are caching the serials now with the newer firmware.

Re: firmware 1.1.j

I am on firmware G. I had that issue of first strip extrusion to the side before. But no longer after calibrating and upping the heat of my extruder and build bed. I use the filament resetter and Also sometime used slic3r. Both of those works for me.
