I am using J on two machines and E on another.
When upgrading, the extruder distance changed causing a bed leveling process.
Three different machines, three upgrades and three different bed levels.
I used a .05mm feeler gauge to manually adjust with the leveling knobs.
This almost always puts the extruder tip high to the bed.
Print a calibration ring which covers the outer edge of the bed and twist the back knobs until the plastic does not look like toothpaste, but a squeezed layer. Follow up on the front.
By the way the J software does a different encoding than base64, be warned.
Hope this info helps. I am just starting out in 3D printing but have alot of experience in the technology.

well the glue should not need to be "thick" really. Your calibration numbers look good enough for government work really. The only thing I can think of is that the metal contact tabs are just a weeee bit sticking up or the actual touch probe is down just a weeee bit too far.

OK, so now what are the issues with the custom repetier firmware?
I have been using it since 5 minutes after it was released and have not looked back. Something to note is that I do not use auto calibrate, I just use paper and calibrate to the glass on the custom firmware. The first layer then needs to be touched up on the edges but I have no adhesion issues even on large prints.

Most all of my prints are mechanical assemblies and must fit together. I will see if I can get a good video up of my finishing kit within the next few days.

medfoch: id stay on 1.1.G.... Ive updated to J and used a resetted cartridge. The printer would accept the files from xyzware but the machine would then stop and a cartridge error would pop up.

I reverted firmware to G. Im not sure if "it modified/ encrypted" my cartridge. Ive used the "Filament Counter Reset Tool V3 and it seems like The dip switches dosnt change settings on the catridge as advertise anymore... I suspect that maybee it did something to my cartridge but I havent had time to re use the reset tool on a new fresh cartridge yet to see if the dip switches work as intended.

While being on J I saw some neat practical feature like when calibrating it keeps the number up and the overall average of your leveling. Also theres a clean nozzle option that brings the print head to center front and the print bed lower"instead of doing a manual jog and unload cartridge operation to do so"

hope it helps.
