Topic: XYZ Da Vinci Maintenance

What is everyone using to maintain their rods with to keep the print head moving smoothly.  I used white lithium grease as other people have suggested.  Curious if anyone has found any other options for keeping the sliders lubricated.

This would be a good place to post other maintenance suggestions that people find help maintain the quality prints we all want.

Although brass bushings are self lubricated, I lightly oil my cross bars and the threaded rod.  As a machinist, I think the white lithium is a bit too thick.  I used a very light oil, Singer machine oil.

I am under the thoughts that without wipers that oils just catch dust. And having 5 dogs 4 cats and 2 kids in the country, I have dust.

this is what I use on the "rolling" parts:

For the rods, I dont apply any lube. I wipe them down with pure alcohol maybe once a week.
It's just a habit I got from my other printers. Smooth rods, if you keep them clean, shouldnt need any "additives"

if it isn't broken, you haven't modded it enough

Re: XYZ Da Vinci Maintenance

I tried the white lithium grease on the rods.  I would not recommend it.  I wiped down the rods clean and applied a light coat of the white lithium grease over the rods.  After a couple of hours of printing I noticed black gunk showing up on the rods.  Then once the printer cooled down, the carriage was sticking when it tried to move left and right.

So I clean the rods again and just applied a very light coat of oil (RC mini-bearing oil) and it works great.

Is this basically the same as air tool lubricant?

Common off the shelf equivalent is 3 in 1 oil by Liquid Wrench. Any light machine oil is fine if used sparingly.
