Topic: how do I install a new motherboard

I ordered a replacement motherboard from Solidoodle about a year ago. Got busy with work, etc... and just getting to it now.

The new board is not the same "Sanguino", but the Rev. E.

The old board had power supply hard wired at terminals. The new board has a "jack" receptical for a plug... like a lot of peripherrals.

I could go the Radio shack and get a plug. But I'm concerned about polarity.. which wire is inside plug and which is outside plug.

Also. The old (original) board had connector with two pins for, I think one pair is for lights and one pair is for extruder motor fan.

The new board has four two pin connection on the board. So, where to I connect the lights and fan connectors?

Dose anyone know of a drawing or schematic and/or instructions for updating from the original board to the newest board?

Thanks in advance.

The outer of the barrel in the negative and the inner is positive.  As far as fan and led's they are both 12v and always on so it won't matter what pins you use as long as they are 12v. But here is a picture that should have everything you need.

Re: how do I install a new motherboard

SD switched over to the REV E boards last year. After using a borrowed Sang, I personally think it is far better than the REV.
As far as connections go, the Printrboard is pretty straightforward. However, one user supplied a nice detailed image of it all wired up here: http://www.soliforum.com/topic/5814/is- … aind-dead/

http://www.soliwiki.com/E3D_extruder will give you links needed for firmware updates. This link is primarily covering assembly and installtion for an E3D, but it does cover software needed for the Printrboard.

If you are planning on mounting your REV directly onto your printer, SD should have sent you a mounting bracket so the holes line up. If not, they are all over Thingiverse and you can print your own custom adapter.
Hope this helps.

Re: how do I install a new motherboard

Do yourself a favor with the Rev E, add a 2 pin fan connector with solder to the spot that says "fan" on the board before you install it.  Boom, G code controlled fan simply and easily.

Also install some mini heatsinks on the stepper chips after adjusting the trimpots BEFORE you mount it on the case. You will thank me later.

My SD3:  Clear plexiglass case, case heater, X axis stabilizer, Z axis stabilizer, thumb screws, filament guide, heatsinks on all motors, extruder fan, controller fan, heatsinks on motherboard, Y rod pillow block, USB and Power on/off switch, fully calibrated including trimpot tuning. Am I missing anything?

Re: how do I install a new motherboard

thanks to those who replied to my post.

Do I have to update the firmware? From what I read in some of the posts, I am directed to update firmware, but those instructions seem to be for the old Sang board.

Do I need to trim motor drivers.. trim pots?

Where to i get instructions for adjusting trim pots. Is this part of recalibrating the axis?

Thanks again all...first I need to get axis moving:)))

Re: how do I install a new motherboard

can you send a photo of added heat sinks.

Solder pins where?

thanks,
