Topic: Layer banding - Z Axis Anti-Backlash

Hi folks
I see there is a good wiki on how to print to parts to prevent layer banding (Z Axis Anti-Backlash). In the wiki, the first picture shows a large hex nut on the threaded rod surrounded by four smaller nuts.

When I look at my printer, the setup is not the same. The large hex-nut is hidden in a layer of plywood. What should I do?

Should I rearrange my printer to look like the setup in the wiki and then add the two printed pieces as shown? Alternatively, should I just leave my printer as it is?

See the two attached pictures.

Looks like you have a lot of rust.  Before you do anything you might want to address that.

See this thread:

Hi 3D-oolder

That was actually my printer. I have since then removed as much of the rust as possible and greased it up.

That nut you see has been added as part of the modification. Which is why it says:

Supplies Needed:

Standard 5/16-18 Hex Nut
The (2) Printed Parts

and

Try your 5/16-18 Nut into the Inner to assuring it fits snug when it bottoms out.
