Topic: Extruder stops after a 3rd layer

I adjusted my temp up to 200 Extruded to clear the clog until ABS filament was moving through smoothly.  Tried to print again and it failed.  I got two prints to work, then it clogs again on different models.  Any ideas?

What is the thumb adjustment for on the extruder?

Re: Extruder stops after a 3rd layer

Compression force on the filament. Is that not readily apparent by inspection?

That is printing 0 layers, not 3. I am betting you need to level the bed and/or adjust the "z-tab". Google for how to do these things.

I can see filament dust everywhere. You need to remove that knob, swing the arm out, and clean the hobbed pulley, whose teeth are full of plastic shavings, I am sure. Then retry. That looks on the looser end, try compressing the spring mroe when you reinstall the knurled nut.

Re: Extruder stops after a 3rd layer

Since this is my first foray into 3D printing nothing is "readily apparent" to me.  I didn't do anything I printed the object below one day then went to print a new object and that is what happened :-(.

IS the Ztab to tight and that is why its compressing?

Re: Extruder stops after a 3rd layer

I mean it's pretty clearly pushing on an arm that is pushing the filament against the motor shaft... but I digress.

The z-tab is the bolt on the back wall of the printer. Your question about it doesn't really make sense.

Remove the knurled nut and spring, swing the arm out, clean the teeth of the hobbed pulley, reassemble, then level the bed and/or adjust the z-tab as described through a quick Google search.

I promise 99% of the questions you will have as a new user have been experienced previously. A quick search will yield answers. The reason no one is responding to your thread is because of this.

I did see the filament dust wasn't sure what it was or meant.  I adjusted the Z tab to get my first print and I printed a pencil holder and the next model wouldn't print I wonder why.

I did all of that thank you and I am printing now its working ok with Z tab adjustment and I will level the printbed the next print.

Your last stament about no one responding because it's common is kinda sad.  If it's so common why isn't it a sticky?
