Topic: front bed stabilization?

Has anyone tried to stabilize the front of the print bed on these?  I did a quick search but didnt really see anything like what i was thinking of doing.  Im thinking if your put 2 pieces of drill rod down along the front of the bed and did linear bearings  that rode on them it would take and extra movement out of it that these printers seem to have.  Im not saying its a MAJOR problem but i thin the more stable you can make it the better off you are going to be.  here is a NASTY paint drawing of my thoughts.  I havnt got around to designing the parts yet but i may try to do that this week if i get some free time.

yes, someone on the forum has done something similar though simpler.

They have attached roller wheels that go up and down the edge sides.

It seems to me a great solution.

I had the same idea. I actually just got it working. My goal was to make the pieces slide into place and not require any drilling or screwing to hold the pieces in place.  There was a bit of trial and error getting the piece to line up and seat correctly.

love this idea.  it's along the lines of what i was thinking would work.
Do you have the design on thingiverse?
how did you manage the alignment of the front rods to the back rods?

Like I said, there has been some trial and error here.  To get the rods align, I first built the bearing carriers. I made them so that they slide onto the front of the bed and positioned the bearings/rods in the space  between the bed and the belts. With these installed, I dropped the rods in.

To ensure that the rods where aligned properly, I measured from the outside of the case to the center of the rod, just at the top of the bearing. Both sides were the same. This told me that the print bed was centered nicely in the case. I then positioned the rods so that tops and bottoms were equal to the measurements I just took. This should put the rods in the correct alignment. I then took measurements of the rod ends relative to the front and side edges of the case and used this info to construct the top and bottom rod retainers.

I have not put this up on thingiverse yet. I am not done tweaking it. The top retainers have a little wiggle in them that I am not happy with. I quick fix would be to add some double back tape and stick them to to case, but I would like to try and get a more snug fit. I am shooting for a print-and-snap-together solution.

very well done! But this would mean my idea of an automatic heated bed sweeper cannot be installed on the bottom of the printer, as it would interfere with the metal bars. But there is a bit of clearance on the back of the heated bed...
