I am looking to use my Paspberry Pi as a print server and was wondering what others are using. I have OctoPrint up and running and it works fine. I would like to try Repetier Server but I am having trouble getting it to even install properly and was wondering if it is even worth the trouble.
Any thoughts?
Not worth the trouble. Tried Repetier first, had issues with a 100% CPU load, reloaded debian and found that my CPU usage was normal. Now, this may be due to something completely different, but I Installed Octoprint, and am happily printing since. I also think the UI of OctoPrint is a bit nicer than RS- for instance, when you click home, the printer homes, whereas in RS it will either home XYZ or drop down a sub menu to home individually. The pause command actually pauses, unlike in RS where it will take its sweet time to stop. Also, with OctoPrint I don't get any of the "Error: Line number is not Line number +1"pc load letter messages that make you want to pull an Office Space printer smashup on the Solidoodle.
I also got OctoPrint up and Running and it is working very well. It works much better than Repetier.
I am running raspberry Pi with rasbian OS installed on it. Repetier server installed with no issues and works perfectly over the network. Make sure to follow the repetier server setup instructions and correctly reference the SD USB device by serial number. You need the raspberry pi version B, the new one. I slice on main machine and upload gcode via http to the repetier server.
I've decided to go with OctoPrint. I wanted to try Repetier only because it's what I'm already familiar with but I don't care for the hassle.
Is there a way to power the Pi from the Sanguino? Is there a way to shutdown the Pi through OctoPrint? I'm doing everything through SSH, and occasionally VNC, but I would like to minimize steps. It would be great to add an all in one switch to the Solidoodle.
I also want to know if we can power the raspberry pi thru the solidoodle motherboard. Is there any instructions on how to do this? And is it possible on solidoodle's new motherboard?
I'm new in 3Dprinting and is still waiting for my Solidoodle 2 Pro model and Raspberry Pi Model B to arrive.
You can't power the Pi via the motherboard directly
The pi wants 700ma-900ma.. this exceeds the 'spare' capacity of the Solidoodle powersupply as well as exceeding the amp limits of the onboard regulator.
Thanks for this info atleast I know now that the raspberry pi needs a dedicated power supply.
Can I know where you get the 700ma-900ma power requirements? Because I'm planning to use one of my extra phone chargers around but most of it outputs either 500ma or 1A.

Personal Knowledge and :
Model B owners using networking and high-current USB peripherals will require a supply which can source 700mA
And lets just say thats 'high-current' in the above statement isn't really that high-current 
I've tested Octoprint, and it seems to be working quite well. Repetier seemed like a hassle to set up.
I'm powering the Pi with a separate power supply, and it's been working well so far.
Do anyone know if it is possible to view the Gcode before starting the print in Octoprint?

I've been using Octoprint exclusively for a couple months now. Agreed was very very easy to set up compared to Repetier. Has a few minor bugs, but over all it's great.
+1 for Octoprint! It even runs on my old model B with 256mb of ram! Only issue I have with it is that if you extrude while a print is paused, it will retract that same amount before resuming the print, completely removing the filament from the extruder. Luckily, the spring can be loosened and then re-tensioned to stop the filament from leaving the hot end.

Is it normal to use absolute extrusion coordinates? Sounds like the relative movement command on the extruder is updating the printer's known position (which I suspect happens in the printer controller, not on the computer), and when the next g-code command comes along it looks like a retraction:
Printer: i'm at 351mm
... pause ...
Manual jog: extrude 20mm
Printer: ok, now i'm at 371mm
... resume printing ...
Gcode: go to 352mm
Printer: ok, going back by 19mm... *splat*
Anyone know whether there's an easy way to fix that? Slice with relative extruder coordinates? I have no idea...
Maybe we can add some "on pause gcode" commands changing to relatives coordinates?
