Topic: upgrading a solidoodle 4
BIG QUESTIONS - I get such great responses from you guys I can't wait to see what you have for me on this.
I purchased a solidoodle 4 used and pretty much stock (previous owner put in a V6 and abandoned the second extruder). I'm having trouble with mechanicals on this so I'm going to break it down and I plan on spending too much money to completely upgrade this beast. I have a solidoodle 3 working to help with parts.
It is my hope, if I do this the way I want, is that I end up with a solidoodle with only a frame and platter that's original.
My hope is that I can make a machine that can work with those cool water soluble plastics for support.
I would like ideas for best mods that will make this a beast. I'm going to use this to help build custom parts for things like superheros. I've got a partner that makes the costumes and I'm to print the parts that are best done with 3d printers.
In addition I'm an engineering teacher at a low income school and I've got several teams of students that I suggested that we could build 3d printers from scratch. I'm a big fan of the Cartesian design of a solidoodle and look to design from that. The only big design change I plan is to use dual z screws. This is the direction I will push my student teams, but they will ultimately make these decisions individually as teams
still a rookie newbie, but learning.
Dreaming on building a large format from scratch
