Topic: Spool Crutch

Thingiverse:51854
STL Author: TheMasterBaron

I saw this go up on thingiverse, but didn't see a post about it here. I never had an issue with the spool falling off, but I never want one either.

Printed at .3mm, great fit, under 1hr. I have added this to the SD wiki modifications page.

Re: Spool Crutch

This is a nice idea;  I almost had a spool fall off once because I didn't re-level the holder (not the weight pulling it down)-  though weight alone is plausible if the PVC gets worn.  However I think a MAJOR improvement would be to lop off the top half of the ring since there's much less need to keep it "held down" and seems like it would slow down spool swaps otherwise

Re: Spool Crutch

I did one of those buried in a thread somewhere here but it went right by everyone.  I use a plastic clip that I have no idea what the original purpose was for.  Mine keeps tension against the spool to prevent overspin as well which reduces the uncoil tendency at the start of a roll.

nickythegreek, thanks for posting this here.  smile

I got  better design that is completely hidden in the PVC here:  thingiverse.com/thing:62312

I like it and the spool tension idea as well.

Re: Spool Crutch

I just put a couple screws in the two joints so they wouldn't turn.
