Ok, I'm a noob with a Da Vinci 1.0, I have only just found out about the pro version and was wondering how to make the machine I've got open filament. is it possible to convert the machine I have to an open source filament version?
yes by flashing it to repetier
As above, here is a video to how you can do such. I flashed mine using this method.
On my 2.0 I use a cartridge resetter and crack open and rewind the spools with inland filament
This also worked on my 1.0 when it was stock
I've almost given up. I made a chip resetter so was able to reset the chip length and also tell the cartridge it was PLA. Now when I try and print PLA the XYZ software says I can't because my head isn't PLA compatible.
I could solve this last issue by putting Repetier on it but if the XYZ software doesn't think I should print PLA with the current extruder head then I'm not certain it would be worth doing. I'm currently seriously thinking about getting new printer, either a Taz 5 or Makergear M2.
maybe try changing the extruder and bed temperature only and leaving it as abs?

If you are using the stock hot end that comes with the 1.0 don't bother trying to use PLA. It will not work, it jams due to the poor heat dissipation.

I've gotten PLA to work by using the cooking oil hack. Not something I plan on doing long term though. But yes, it's definitely non-optimal to use PLA in the stock hot end.

As far as I understand, you can not use original xyz software (xyzware) after flashing repetier-firmware.
One of the major benefit of flashing repetier-firmware is that you don't have to use xyzware. XYZware is buggy slow and generate low quality prints. Allow use of 3rd party filament is just a bonus.
