Topic: [Resolved] Solidoodle 3 - Extruder problem

Dear all,

I have a really big problem. Since I have tried to put a new filament spool, my extruder does not work anymore... Only one of the roller is still working. The other one refuse to work. Result: the filament is not push outside the extruder

On the image, the green one is the working one and the red is the problem.

I have already open it and clean it but it does not work.

Do you know what can I do to solve the problem?

Thanks a lot in advance.

The red one is the idler, it receives no power and just turns in response to the green one.  If it is not turning, there are a couple possible solutions:
1.  Your teeth on the gear (green circle) are clogged with filament or damaged and are not gripping the filament.  Based on debris shown, that appears likely.
2.  Your spring tension is not tight enough.  Try to tighten it.
3.  Your hot end is clogged, not letting any filament thru even if everything above it is right.
4.  I have had cases before where there was nothing wrong with the above and I still couldn't print with the stock gear because even on a newer printer, it is just a piece of junk with very shallow and dull teeth.  Consider upgrading to an E3D hobb goblin and you will also get better resolution.  There is a thread about this.

Try fixing 1 and 2 first.  Also, it is recommended to print the lawsy MK5 extruder while you still can before the acrylic inevitably breaks, leaving you printerless and without support from solidoodle.

Re: [Resolved] Solidoodle 3 - Extruder problem

Thanks a lot for your answer.

It took time but:
- I disassembled the two gears (red and green)
- I removed all plastic in the extruder
- I cleaned the gears with acetone and water
- I put back some lubricate on the red one (I don't know if "lubricate" is the correct English word... Sorry if it is not. I mean oil for engineering)
- I reassembled the extruder
- I made a lot of tests to find the right tension
And now, it is working back !

Thanks again a lot ! My first print was the lawsy MK5 extruder.
