Topic: What causes this?

Been printing a lot of little trinkets for the Holidays - alls been well.  Tried printing something different and this happened.  Was using a new roll of ABS @215/95.

Top view.  Each layer seems OK.

Side view.  The whole works is twisting CCW
In the front view, everything appears square... WTF has gone out of whack now?

Re: What causes this?

Looks like some heavy over extrusion.  Probably should recalibrate for that roll.

Re: What causes this?

As Ward said every roll is different. Even the same color form the same vendor will be different and requires you to calibrate each roll change..

Printing since 2009 and still love it!
Anycubic 4MAX best $225 ever invested.
Voxelabs Proxima SLA. 6 inch 2k Mono LCD.
Anycubic Predator, massive Delta machine. 450 x 370 print envelope.

Re: What causes this?

I agree with wardjr as well.

As an added note, by looking at your first pic and your signature, you have linear bearings and are over extruding. In the first image, the is not only a shift with blobbing, but there also seems to be a twisting pattern when viewed from the top.
You may want to confirm your bearings have not popped out of place (looks to be) on one side. This is easy to confirm, and fairly easy to fix.

Printit Mason and Printit Horizon printers
Multiple SD2s- Bulldog XL, E3D v5/v6/Lite6, Volcano, Hobb Goblin, Titan, .9 motor, Lawsy carriages, direct Y drive, fishing line...the list goes on

or something is snagging carriage while printing like filament on fan or something or lube is drying out/dirty after lots of use.

Re: What causes this?

Soon as I get both eyes open, I'll recalibrate and check. Bearings seem OK.  Visually, everything looks OK. Just recently re-lubed all the shafts with a rag dampened with 3 in 1, same stuff I've used for 2 years.

Back after a few.

I wonder if I let it go, how far it would have rotated?  smile

Re: What causes this?

Guess I was over-extruding just a bit!  My calibration box should have sides of 0.42mm - mine were 0.92!  Just a bit out of whack.  Got them back to 0.42/0.41/0.42/0.42 - a little better.

I may try that print later - have to go cut grass now.  A lot of you are shoveling snow - we're cutting grass - it's 72 here and its not noon yet!

Re: What causes this?

Rub it in why don't ya!!! I'd rather be boating than shoveling.

LOL that was kind of my thought as well - except not exactly shoveling here... supposed to be in the 40's for the next week or so
