Topic: Replacement Motherboard!

Hi
A few weeks back my sd3 motherboard thermistor input shorted so I have to buy a new one. I contacted solidoodle about a replacement but from what I can gather they have gone radio silent(Any idea whats going on there?).Anyway back to the main question what is a good replacement board for the sd3. I live in the Eu.
I would have loved to get an alligator board but they are not selling them at the moment.

Re: Replacement Motherboard!

Ramps, Rumba, Azteeg, Smoothieboard - there are a multitude of board options out there that can be made to work with the right firmware changes - how adventurous do you feel?

you can even get a non-SD version of the Printrboard if you like...not my first choice, but they are out there.

Re: Replacement Motherboard!

Ok Im probably going to go with the printrboard rev E but it has 3 options on their page
Play(model 1505)
Simple(model 1403)
Plus(model 1504/1412)
Makers Kit(model 1405)
Which Model is right for solidoodle 3. I cant find any info as to what these models mean

Re: Replacement Motherboard!

It explains right on the product page:

All Rev F boards are identical in terms of components, but you can select a board that is preloaded with the correct firmware and setting values for your Printrbot.

You're not using a printrbot, so you're going to have to reload the firmware anyway.

Ok thanks

Re: Replacement Motherboard!

If you are resigned to and comfortable installing your own firmware, I would look at a Rumba or Rambo board. They are not outrageously expensive, but seem to have much more functionality. The Printrboard has the advantage of fitting nicely and exactly replacing what you have, but that is about it.

Agreed. I have a Rumba on one of my SD4s and it is a great replacement for the Printrboard. Also has the advantage of replaceable stepper drivers - if one goes kaput, simply change it out instead of having to replace the whole board.
