Topic: Da vinci aio "Bad Scan"

hello there,

I've only just joined here and would be very grateful if anyone could help me out,  i have a da vinci aio printer and started printing stuff as soon as it arrived! all was well (aside from the poor software) but when i tried to scan something the software would either crash mid scan or spend about half an hour loading only for it to say that the object was 0.00mm high,  0.00mm wide and 0.00mm in breadth!(bad scan) yet the PREIVIEW is successful!

how is this so!? anyway i got to searching and found a possible cause that is to say the firmware may be at fault! (i foolishly upgraded the firmware thinking that it would have no bugs) i also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software (which i also updated as the old one didn't even find the printer!)

anyway my firmware is 1.1.5 but i personally suspect that the programme is faulty.....of course I probably am wrong.

many thanks for all your help!

Unfortunately right now there is no way to downgrade and Aio once you have upgraded the firmware. The did something to it that no one has been able to crack yet to make it more secure and to force user into their hardware/filament noose.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!

Re: Da vinci aio "Bad Scan"

I have been using the old xyzscan it's working better then the current one but I also have older firmware too. You can download an older version and see what happens.

Da Vinci  AiO with firmware 1.1.1 using xyzscan 1.1.18

Zerokart resetter,  Installed a Extruder Controller for higher temps

Re: Da vinci aio "Bad Scan"

Thanks Carl_m1968 for your reply.

just my luck! they improved the security of the machine! Still the printer does work with the new firmware and the Preview's of the scans work too which makes me think that xyzscan is the root of my problem!

so as far as the firmware goes i'll just have to make do until someone cracks it! (I'm not clever nor brave enough to hack into it my self)

it's strange though (going off subject just for now) that Xyz are planning (or have done) to release a pro version of their machine which allows use of 3rd party filament so WHY persevere with making the other printers bound to their stuff?

also It would be great if xyz make xyzware pro available for ALL of their printers (with some features turned off though so it would work with "lower" models).

I'd love to be able to adjust the temperature of my nozzle! (I am aware of slic3r)

thanks for the link kev0175 but I've read the comments there and they have said it's for the 1.0A and not the aio machine, ah wait you were talking about the programmes!...weren't you? I'll give them a go!

Re: Da vinci aio "Bad Scan"

just tried xyzscan 1.2.5 and it came up with "could not find camera" error and I know that 1.2.3 does the same as that's what came with my printer.....(insert swear here)  thanks though for your help Kev!^_^

my os? well I have windows 7 home premium on a desktop and 7 pro on a laptop both of which are 64 bit,  I got onto Xyz's support and told them I was having problems with this so maybe they might help?.

I did hear however that others (like your self) were having trouble getting it to work with 7 but it worked fine on 8!

Re: Da vinci aio "Bad Scan"

ok so I tried it on other computers,  one XP and one windows 8.  I found out that XP isn't supported for the scanner at all but does work for the actual printing! windows 8 however just gave me the same issue's I am having with this printer on 7 so no change there!.

Vista (spare laptop) isn't supported at all!.

has anyone managed to get a scan at all with the da vinci 1.0aio???????

Re: Da vinci aio "Bad Scan"

The only time I was able to get the scan to work with the newer version was when I recalibrated the scanner and then it only worked one time.

Da Vinci  AiO with firmware 1.1.1 using xyzscan 1.1.18
E3Dv6 hotend with custom carriage with Borosilicate glass bed
123D Design and Simplify3D, Replaced PS with a Solidgear Flex320

and not since? wow this is really bad! I did say before that I contacted Xyz about this but haven't got a reply yet (stupid time zones!) anyway I'll try again and come back here if I have any luck....very much doubt though.

Re: Da vinci aio "Bad Scan"

hello again.

after some more test scans it seems (there's the magic word) to be working!

I still cannot understand why it didn't work in the first places! was I doing something wrong????

Re: Da vinci aio "Bad Scan"

Man.... I'm glad to hear that and did you update drivers or anything?

Re: Da vinci aio "Bad Scan"

Hi zader18 and kev0175

Same problem here, I have

a  HP Pavilion with Windows 8.1, with intel core i7
a brand new dA Vinci 1.1 Aio with latest fimware (1.1.5) and software (2.1.3)

The scan is complete but it comes to the (i think) image processing, the program stops and I end up having an empty image.

Please help!

Re: Da vinci aio "Bad Scan"

Did you upgrade the xyzscan? if so try and use the one on your CD and see if that changes anything

Da Vinci  AiO with firmware 1.1.1 using xyzscan 1.1.18
E3Dv6 hotend with custom carriage with Borosilicate glass bed
123D Design and Simplify3D, Replaced PS with a Solidgear Flex320
Zerokart resetter,  Installed a Extruder Controller for higher temps

Re: Da vinci aio "Bad Scan"

This is a long shoot but have you installed the new Microsoft scan software and the microsoft 3d builder?

In windows 8.1 there is a update for XYZ printers. I've got a duo 2.0 so never tried the scan part.

Re: Da vinci aio "Bad Scan"

Thank you guys for your quick replies

To kev0175, yes i tried, but the old versions indicate that the printer is not connected. In this thread I read that zader18 faced  the same problem. I guess this is due to an incompatibility with the latest firmware, which cannot be replaced by the previous firmware.

To deuse: I did not know about Microsoft 3d builder. I guess I have to try this although I did not read anything about this software being able to scan using a Da Vinci Aio, but the Kinect or webcams.

Thanks again
