Topic: Repetier - baudrate ?

I'm wondering what the correct baudrate should be under repetier ?
Or does it even matter ?  I seem to see different values quoted every time I read about it.
Confused.

the best :

My setting:
baud rate: 250000
serial cache size: 2024
it runs like a Ferrari!

Re: Repetier - baudrate ?

I had a look on the LCD for serial cache size but can't see it.
Where did you find that value ?

Yeah, I know where to find it in S3D but how did you know what value to use ?

A few websites suggest that value..

How about baudrate, is there a specific value for that ?

I have always used 250000 myself. The only thing baudrate might impact would be at lower speeds you could get a time out if there was an error in the data and it had to resend it several times. That might cause the print to stall. 250000 has never given me such an issue.

Re: Repetier - baudrate ?

Thanks Carl.
That might explain why I had a print freeze yesterday.
The baudrate on my computer's side was at 9600 so I changed the printer and S3D to that too.
I'll wack it up to 250000.

Dont pay any attention to the baud rate setting in port properties in your device manager. That is the speed that Windows would use if it used that port. Your host will override Windows and set it for the settings it has when it grabs the port.

Re: Repetier - baudrate ?

Ah right, got you. That makes sense.
So only the printer firmware and S3D need to have matching values ?

Re: Repetier - baudrate ?

Hmmm. Just tried a print at 250000 and it failed on the first layer (printer stopped and lost comms with the laptop).
Same thing when I tried a serial cache of 2024.
I've not had any problems with a baudrate of 9600 and cache at 63 though.
Just finished a print at 115000 and cache at 63 so I guess I'll just stick with that for now.

Re: Repetier - baudrate ?

Spoke to soon. Failed prints on both 9600 and 115000.
Reckon I'll go back to printing from SD card which is pretty much 100% reliable.
Might be something to do with the laptop I have connected to the printer.
It's getting on a bit and not that powerful by todays standards.

I'm on 0.92.
I can print from SD without a problem but I'm trying to get printing over usb working via S3D so I can remote control the printer using the Teamviewer app on the ipad.
I could of course still print from SD but it's easier to just load a print from the connected computer.
Everything works fine until I start a print. I've had a few prints finish but more often than not, they fail on the first layer.
I've had prints fail when printing from SD with a usb cable connected but never with it removed.
I'm wondering if the usb connection on my old laptop is the issue ??

I had a similar issue and posted here about back when i first switched to Repetier. Luc responded and it fixed it, I will have to look back in my 2000 post and see if i can find it.

Found it, here is what Luc told me. it is worth a check in your firmware.

It contains an error for the "wait" identifier in configuration.h
it is typo issue W is upper case when it should be lower case
#define WAITING_IDENTIFIER "wait"

Mine would lock up randomly which is not that big of a problem except for the fact the temperature is no longer monitored or controlled and goes into thermal runaway. At one point my bed got up to 210 and my extruder was at 320. The only thing that alerted me was that smell you smell when ABS is getting too hot.

No such luck there Carl.

I believe it was 256k but I dont remember. That was the receive buffer size in Repetier host. I no longer have the Da Vinci as I sold it to recover se of the cost of this CTC dual head I bought.

Re: Repetier - baudrate ?

I am stuck with sd only printing myself.  That CTC refuses to talk to any host regardless of what I do or use.  The company tells me it needs a windows XP environment to work. Yep a new printer made to work on an obsolete OS. They offered 20 bucks for my troubles. I have a cheap laptop with XP on its way. If it still does not work, it will be getting a RUMBA or PiBot controller.

Re: Repetier - baudrate ?

Just tried a different usb port and the first print completed succesfully.
So it's looking like the problem is on the laptop side.
I'll need to run a few more prints but hopefully, this might be a solution.

Re: Repetier - baudrate ?

So I've finished several more prints and it seems to be working fine now over USB.
Remote control is working great via the iPad Teamviewer app and using the S3D machine control panel.
I guess you could use an iPhone or Android tablet/phone too.
