Topic: PLA prints look matte (not glossy) after E3D upgrade

I'm having some weird issues with PLA after swapping to the E3D v6 hot end. It extrudes fine, but it isn't glossy and I don't know why. I do still have the hot end temp sensor set to 6 in the firmware, but I don't think that's the problem because I've printed in a range from ~170-210C with the same result (I had it set to 180-185C with the stock extruder). I'm using a spool of PLA that I used a decent amount before the changeover and never had this happen before with any spools.

I don't care that it isn't glossy. It's that the models end up being soft while printing and causes some irregularities and it doesn't even seen that hot almost like the bed temp is causing it (set to 60C, but tried printing @45-50C which causes reduced bed adhesion and still doesn't fix the glossy or softness issues). I'm working on building my own ducted fan for it, or finish redesigning it actually, but I've printed without a fan before and it's never looked like this. Once the part fully comes to room temp, it's rigid as you would expect, but still matte. I will post pictures when I can.

I've printed with Taulman Bridge and PET+ with very good results.

Anyone have this issue?

6 is not the correct thermistor setting, 5 is.

And I will add,  you therefore have no clue what temp your printing at.

Printit Industries Model 8.10 fully enclosed CoreXY, Chamber heat
3-SD3's & a Workbench all fully enclosed, RH-Slic3r Win7pro, E3D V6, Volcano & Cyclops Hot End
SSR/500W AC Heated Glass Bed, Linear bearings on SS rods. Direct Drive Y-axis, BulldogXL
Thanks to all for your contributions

Has anyone seen that problem before though?

I ended up turning the temp up to 215-220C before changing the firmware and it seemed to look a little glossier. I changed the firmware to 5 for the temp sensor and the temp curve is more stable, but same problem. That thermistor is only rated to 300C not 350C which is mentioned on this site...

I may just have to turn up the temp more... The stock extruder sucks...

Re: PLA prints look matte (not glossy) after E3D upgrade

I was wondering if someone might help on this. I am using a Ramps 1.4 loaded with the firmware from the forum here. I tried the board setting of 33 and can get the bed to heat on pin #8 also the fan to control on pin #9 but pin #10 does not heat my extruder. When I use board setting 34 I can get the extruder to work on pin 9 and the bed on pin 8. But no fan control anywhere. I would like to use board setting 33 but don't know what is wrong. I have tried this on about 3 different Ramps boards and is is the same so I must have a setting wrong in the marlin setup.
Thank you for your time.
