Topic: SD4 with 2 extruders?!?
So I received my SD4 finally. Opened it up and it has 2 extruders in it. Um... What? It is definitely the smaller platform SD so I am wondering if I got a WB Apprentice installed in a SD4 box.

Pics?
Well you just saved about $400 on a workbench apprentice. Comgratulations!!!
Lol that's kind of how I look at it. A bonus for having to wait so long.
It is missing it's glass bed though. It only has a bare metal. I put some Kapton on it for now but will be getting a glass top for it.
I am pretty sure that is exactly what it is. Only drawback over it and the SD4 is the 4 has a 8" print bed.
Link is broken
Yeah it did not like the link. I edited and just uploaded the pics.
So that's quite the frankendoodlde. The WBA does not have an enclosure if I recall... Not exactly sure what they were smoking when they put your package together...
Yup. SD4 with dual extruders.
Can you show the board? Unless they added an extra driver, one of those extruders are a dud.
You may have made out like a bandit if everything looks good ![]()
Plus that's an SD4 door, so they used an SD4 frame. You can easily add an 8" build platform if you buy one from SD.
motherboard
Looks like you have 2 functioning extruders so you are golden on that front, but the bed dimension jagowilson touched on is concerning. Is it 8x8 or 6x6?
You may have to reflash the firmware for the Workbench and then alter the bed size...
Edit: Never mind, I thought the WBA had an 8 x 8...
It is a 6x6. For all purpose it basically appears I got a WBA in a SD4 box.
The only thing you didn't get lucky on is there being an auto leveling system. I prefer the good old fashioned z stop screw.

Now, it would be great if he could adjust the nozzles independently!!

Hopefully solisam doesn't see this thread... Someone might get fired ![]()
Nice!

LOL
So I've got my frankindoodle printing its first item. It is just some random skull I found on thingiverse. After I am sure it is all working right I will have to look at the 2 extruder printing.
How did it turn out? Pics?
Sadly I had lifting problems. I got it to print up about 1/4" before it completely lifted off the plate. I need to get some acetone to make some juice or some hairspray. I will do that on my way home from work today.
The portion that did print was pretty smooth even at a 3mm setting and the layering looked good though.
Aquanet on glass is the way to go. The purple can is extreme hold...good stuff
Roger that. I will give it a try. Thanks. So with the glass method, what temperature is best to run my bed? I was gradually bumping it up up up trying to get it to not lift. But with the glass and an adhesive I would assume I can run it cooler. For the record I got my best print on some roughed up kapton (sanded with 220 grit) and my bed temp at 105.
