I am using a Ramps 1.4 loaded with the firmware from the forum here. I tried the board setting of 33 and can get the bed to heat on pin #8 also the fan to control on pin #9 but pin #10 does not heat my extruder. When I use board setting 34 I can get the extruder to work on pin 9 and the bed on pin 8. But no fan control anywhere. I would like to use board setting 33 but don't know what is wrong. I have tried this on about 3 different Ramps boards and is is the same so I must have a setting wrong in the marlin setup.

Probably the wrong place to ask this question but you will find all the info you need here.

That should be the only changes you need to make.

Thanks for all the help friend. I'll have to wait to Monday morning to try this. I have my printer at my office at work. I'll let y'all know how it turns out. Jonathan

I am so sorry to keep bothering you. I feel like an idiot . I can build a pc in my sleep but this arduino stuff is kicking my butt. lol
What lines in the code do I make these changes to? Ive looked through the code a few times and dont see anything that jumps out ate me. It appears that there are multiple places to enter the max temp. I dont want to put it in the wrong place.

Re: Question about upgrades

its not in the arduino code you do it in set up for repetier host i believe

Re: Question about upgrades

The updates for the thermistor and max temp are performed in the configuration.h file on the Solidoodle 2 with the sanguino board. Here are the changes http://www.soliwiki.com/E3D_extruder#Ed … ion.h_file

The instructions list approximate line numbers to the left, to see the line numbers, place your cursor in a line of code and look at the status bar on the bottom of your arduino editor screen.

Ok Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Ive made the changes and have successfully uploaded the firmware. Are there any other changes (in firmware / repetier. ect) that need to be made before I install the e3d v6?

Re: Question about upgrades

I believe that is the only change you need to make before the E3D install. After you wire it up by following the online tutorials, you will need to heat it up, then tighten it to "bind" it all together. The tutorials indicate how to do this. After that, you will need to adjust your filament extrusion length and width like you probably did when you first bought your printer.

Re: Question about upgrades

Ok cool thank y'all so much for all of the help. I have to get some kapton and locate the right connectors so I can hook the e3d up to the sd2 existing power and find a power brick that will run the tiny fan that came with the e3d. Ill let yall know how my first test with the new hot end goes. smile

Ummm,,,, NO
What do you need Kapton for other than the stuff provided with the E3d?
Why would you need a separate PSU for the active cooling fan?  Just tie it into the wires for the extruder motor fan.
As far as connectors go the right way would be to add the proper connector.  But, the wires are long enough to run from the heat cartridge back to the board.  Cut the existing wires (for the SD hot end) about an inch or two from the board and tie the new wires together with a western union junction.  Wrap them with some electrical tape and the heat cartridge is good to go.
you can repeat the process for the thermistor wires.  The nice thing is you don't have to wait for connectors to start printing and you'll be able to add the connectors later.

Re: Question about upgrades

Ok got everything hooked back up. But now the printer is trying to start the print in the front left corner instead of the middle. My printer shape didn't change did it?

They travel back to there endstop switches and then stop.

Re: Question about upgrades

Also its doing this weird thing where its mashing the layers together. This was printed at .3mm and should be twice as tall as it is.

Re: Question about upgrades

Is it possible that you had entered a Scale Z setting on the Slic3r?

Could you have inadvertently change your Z steps/mm?

Also, did the height look correct on the "Gcode Editor Display" after slicing?

I dont think so. I sliced this part before I made the mods and it printed out fine with the old head/firmware. Do you have to make changes in sli3r to accommodate the new firmware?

Re: Question about upgrades

Something has changed I would focus on the generated G-code first.  If that looks correct then manually move Z 20mm and see if it actually moves 20mm's.

Ok when I move the z axis manualy 20mm it is actualy only moving 10 or 11mm.

So either it is skipping steps or the steps per mm are incorrect.

When I bought my sd the z rod was wobbly The bore was way off center so I replaced it with a fine thread rod. I remember having to go into the eprom setting and change some stuff. I just dont remember what I did. I wonder if this new firmware is set for the old z rod?

Re: Question about upgrades

Ok I think I used a m5 rod with a pitch of 0.8mm. But I dont know the motor step angle, the driver micro steps, or the gear ratio t input into the calculator. I would think that the gear ratio would be 1 to 1. but im not 100% sure.

Re: Question about upgrades

Motor angle 1.8
1/16th steps unless you've changed the driver.
No gear ratio
