Topic: XYZ PLA now available

And I guess they must love returns. The product description states that it is "for use with the XYZPrinting da Vinci 1.0/1.1/2.0/AiO 3D printer". But, um, we KNOW it will not work with the 1.0 already, right? <sigh> If you buy it and contact support, I wonder how many times they'll tell you calibrate your bed, send pictures and reload/load your cartridge before they ask you to ship them the filament at your expense only to tell you that you must have an incompatible printer. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00RWX … ion-iframe

They might have there own pla formula that works with there nozzle.

If not like you say there in for a lot of frustrated customers.

I would have to say they have their own formula. We already know their ABS is a different formulation from the normal third party stuff.

Ordered some now and should tell you in a day or two if it works.

Re: XYZ PLA now available

If you have the 1.0, don't expect to get PLA to work...even though XYZPrinting used PLA as a selling point.

Unless you run custom firmware, the extruder and heated bed are incapable of adjusting temperature to handle both types of filaments.

Disclaimer: From what I've read on the 'net anyway. I haven't tried to use PLA myself in my machine big_smile

Re: XYZ PLA now available

Mine is a duo running standard software and firmware.  So yes am an ideal candidate to get a measure of how many issues they will get.

Am also within 10 minutes drive of their support center so.....

Re: XYZ PLA now available

I have a 1.0A on stock firmware working with copperfill, all it took was printing/using one of the shrouds on thingiverse. I have some bronzefill and woodfill coming tomorrow. The odd thing is that I've seen others who also added extra small heatsinks to make it work but when I tried that it made the heat creep worse.

You can change extruder/bed temps via the chip on the filament cartridge if on stock firmware. I use the xyzap from wctek.com.

Re: XYZ PLA now available

OK package arrived and am currently printing with PLA.

Initial impressions - new packaging.  All previous cartridges have been received with just cartridge in the box with a silica jell pack to remove moisture.  The PLA one has come and in the box it is also double vacum wrapped.  Also new is there is now a center insert to lock the spool aswell as the previous little rubber bung.  Maybe someone else can advise if this is a new general revision for their cartridges or if this is only for the PLA.

Loading, no issues at all.  Went straight in, although I did do a double purge until the clear filament came through and any trace of the old abs could not be seen.

Printing - still in progress.  Printing 2 Linkings from Thingiverse as a test.

Extruder temp is showing as 192 degrees and print bed at 43 degrees.

So far "it just works", another hour or so to see the final results.

I have a feeling trying to use both extruders simultaneously one with ABS and one with PLA may cause issues.  May try it for a tets, but realistically I don't think I'd need to do that yet.

If you can print Copperfill, you should be fine with Bronzefill and Woodfill. I've been printing them both with a stock 1.0.
Coincidentally, I'm expecting some Copperfill and Bamboofill in the post today.

Re: XYZ PLA now available

And now I have an issue.  The PLA stops feeding after a while, presumably the heat creep that others have reported to be issue on PLA.  Now XYZ site does say to change printer head is needed....and I have not.

This should now be interesting as the PLA filament is available in Japan where I live, but locally XYZPrinting does not sell the printer heads.  Let's see how support handles this.

Re: XYZ PLA now available

I'll be interested in what support has to say.
Amazon site clearly states "for use with da Vinci 1.0/1.1/2.0/AiO

Have a look at some of the other PLA and exotic filament threads. There are easy ways to get around the heat creep. wink

Re: XYZ PLA now available

Aim is to try and keep the printer stock and supported by XYZ, I mean they won't be selling PLA if they intend everyone to mod the printer to make it work.

Has anyone got a link to the XYZ extruders to use for PLA?  I can see mention of a kit on the website, but not a single reference of how to purchase.

Re: XYZ PLA now available

I was checking this out on their site yesterday, and I can't remember where I found it but I came across a page that listed the PLA compatibility with all of their machines. The 1.0 and I think one other model were listed as "Upgrade," but the rest of them were compatible.

Re: XYZ PLA now available

Hopefully this isn't against the rules, but since it's related to the topic: If anybody's interested, I have a new extruder nozzle I modded to work with PLA with a couple heatsinks and it worked like a charm - and then my printer's motherboard died. I'm parting out the printer now, so anyone who wants the heatsinked nozzle can have it for $50 + shipping. Only about an hour of print time on it so far.

Just shoot me a PM if you want it!

Re: XYZ PLA now available

First reply from them.

Thank you for your mail.

We are planning to start the PLA compliant version update service, but unfortunately we are not yet in the stage to provide you the complete timing of when we will start.

When we are prepared, we can accept your printer, make a version update and return it to you safely.

The fees for the update will be as follows:

・Da Vinci 1.0 compliant version update service:¥19,800.-
・Da Vinci 2.0 compliant version update service:¥22,800.-

※Consumtion tax and round trip forwarding fees are included in the update service fees.

Re: XYZ PLA now available

@dazee

Well that seems like BS.  That is like $167 in US dollars.

This is from their website:

Model Name Product Name (first five digit of the serial number) Material Compatible (PLA)

da Vinci 1.0 3DP01              Upgrade Kits
da Vinci 2.0 Duo 3F20X       Upgrade Kits
da Vinci 1.0A 3F10A             OK
da Vinci 1.0AiO 3S10A          OK
da Vinci 2.0A Duo 3F20A       OK
da Vinci 1.1Plus 3F11X          OK

So if you have the 2.0 Duo and not the 2.0A Duo that really sucks to pay that cost to print PLA.  I will be getting some for my 1.0A and trying it as well.

Re: XYZ PLA now available

Wouldn't they be liable to fraud or false advertising suits for the original 1.0 and 2.0? They were sold advertised as compatible with PLA.

Re: XYZ PLA now available

I love how their website "suggests" that you buy a new extruder "to ensure the printing quality".

Yeah, like I'm going to swap out my whole extruder assembly just so I can switch to printing a different material. big_smile

Maybe in some countries, but in the US they are protected by a little blanket clause in their manual that says "Specifications subject to change without notice.". This clause protects them in the US. Other countries may be more specific on requirements.

Re: XYZ PLA now available

I actually would like a spare extruder, so would not be too upset to pay.  But.... the fact that they will not sell you spares in Japan, or allow to buy the spares in the US for shipping outside the US, and that they have said they require the printer to be sent to them, gives me the impression that they are intending to keep the old one.  Maybe I'll be surprised and get my spare extruder after all.  Time will tell.

23

Re: XYZ PLA now available

Just to update.  Another reply today that they still do not have the process for the upgrade in place and that the PLA is currently for the later versions of the printer.  They will let me know when they are ready to start upgrades in Japan, but are unsure if the original extruders would be returned with the printer.  So have advised them I will send the printer minus the original extruders - need my spares!

They did mention this is both a hardware and software upgrade for PLA printing.

Re: XYZ PLA now available

I have version 1.0A of the Davinci.  I have ordered the natural PLA cartridge from Amazon.  I will be a guinea pig.  I will report my findings here.  Going into this test, since I have a stock 1.0A, I expect it to work with no issues but we shall see...

What shroud did you use?
