Topic: 3rd Party ABS filament

Hey guys thought i would start with this thread, as i know some people are having issues with the crappy free filament that comes with the solidoodle.

What 3rd party ABS filament have you bought and had success with?
If you add temperature of extruder would be helpful too!

Re: 3rd Party ABS filament

I've used Hatchbox ABS (orange) at 230 degrees.  I would consider my results acceptable but not great.  I've also used Signswise PLA at 195 degrees with good results.

Re: 3rd Party ABS filament

Based on his thread I ordered some of that same PLA and will be trying it out.  I've flipped the fan on the extruder, which some say helps immensely.

I've also used the blue Sainsmart ABS available on Amazon.  It comes on a cardboard spool that some people consider problematic, one person referred to such spools as "janky", but I could give a rat's A so long as it prints well and is cheap.  I built a spool holder from about $2 worth of pvc so I'm good.

I initially was having problems getting a completed print and I was blaming the filament, but I think I just picked a problematic model.  It had some overhangs that were curling upwards and the print head was clipping against it as it moved back and forth... after it does that a while it impedes extrusion enough that I'll get a clog.  It took me about 6 or 7 test prints to notice that upward curling and stop blaming the material.

I was using Hatchbox Black ABS at the SoliPrint 1.0 extruder default (sorry don't recall what it was) without issue.
