Ok gang.... I think I have this in the right forum now...

Not sure what is going on... but I seem to be having some connection issues.....
I am using a solidoodle 3....

Was connected a few minutes ago via port 4....

I had a short in thermoster from my hotend and was checking for the short...
found it and powered down to make the repair...
I disconnected, repaired and reboot my machine....

Now I do not get port 4 at all.... Only Port 3...
it will connect to that... but I only get M105 connection errors...

Board lights are on... fan is running...
No connection sound when I plug in USB....

If I hit the reset button... it doesn't seem to do anything.... no USB disconnect sound or anything...
lights don't go out.... nothing... just keeps running... fan doesn't stop either...

Anyone have a clue?  I am stumped... If somehow I managed to brick the board... would it
still power up?  Fan run etc????

i replied to your other post, too, but try the obvious first - try a different usb cable to rule that out, and a different port on the computer if you have one available

I have tried several different ports so far... and nothing....

Not sure that it is the cable considering it was just working... but it could be.

I will give it another try...

if still nothing with a different cable, you may want to try uninstalling the driver and reinstalling.

which board does your SD3 have?

not necessarily the whole board that has gone south, but the usb connection itself was bad

I had that same board on my SD4 that the USB went out on - I was getting a lot of pausing during prints. I tried doing some soldering on it trying to make it work, and it did work for a little bit, but eventually crapped out completely - ended up getting a Rumba and haven't looked back.

Before you give up on the board tho, try uninstalling & reinstalling the USB driver for the printer. (always try the cheap fixes first. wink )

Gotta remember how to do that..... BEEN A LONG TIME since I installed them.....

How expensive and difficult was the Rumba board to setup?

Solidoodle 2 with Deluxe kit cover & glass bed with heater. and 2nd board SD2 used not 3rd and alum platform not installed yet still wood. also need cooling fan installed to board. use Repetier Host couple vers. Slic3r also have all free ware STL programs

the Rumba was around $100-120, depending on where you get it from (stay away from geeetech! they are clones, not genuine), and the options you choose. just an fyi - reprapdiscount.com (who was the original supplier for Rumba) have pulled them due to some recent issues... last I heard, they were hoping to get the problem sorted out and make them available again, but they are not at this time.

Ramps would be another alternative, and a bit cheaper, again depending on options, with plenty of documentation here on installing one of those.

There are other alternatives as well, but I don't know enough about them to make any recommendations. When we were looking to replace our SD printerboard, it came down to Ramps or Rumba for us, and we ended up with the Rumba - a little more expansion capability than the Ramps and everything is on one board.

setting up was not all that difficult with help from the great people here, mostly wardjr, who has been a fantastic source of help (i really cant thank him enough).  The "hardest" part is getting the firmware set up and installed right, and even that isnt all that hard if you follow directions to the letter. the rest is simply hooking up the wires in the right places and testing to be sure everything is working correctly.

my printer lost its connection tonight coundlt find the comport. i have a solution for this issue. its what worked for me

un plug and turnof the printer  (power down and disconnect cable from the computer) restart the computer power up the printer after about 5 minutes once the computer has restarted plug the printer back in and it should be back on the correct com port for my computer its com 5

You only need to close the printer, leave it for 10 seconds, then power it again. That works for me. COM5 too wink. Worst case: close RH and printer (but not the computer), leave them 10 seconds, then start RH, then printer. It also works.

Fat kids are harder to kidnap!
