Topic: XYZCartridge resetter V2

Hi guys, I'm back again smile

so, after stealing a part of Oldsirhippy topic, I decided to make my own. The idea is to make cartride resetter without need to connect Arduino on the computer while doing it, something like "Standalone" device smile

I bought 2.4" Arduino shield with SD card, it took a while to arrive, thats why Im writing this post now sad

I made a 3D model in solidworks how did I imagined all, all I miss is 3D model of display shield sad just imagine its on top of Arduino smile

The idea is to have a database stored on the SD card and to have a possibility to enter all data manually smile

Suggestions, ideas, criticism are welcome smile

They already have one that does not need Adruino. It has it's on app that allows you to change temps and usage. Just set the cart on it, open the app, make changes, click done, and the cart is ready to go. I got it on ebay with the app for 20 bucks.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!
Anycubic 4MAX best $225 ever invested.
Voxelabs Proxima SLA. 6 inch 2k Mono LCD.
Anycubic Predator, massive Delta machine. 450 x 370 print envelope.

The one on eBay is the one I use too. Works just great.

Win 8.1
Improved Da Vinci 1.0 with Firmware 1.2.5 and stock extruder
Arduino cartridge resetter and after-market ABS filament
TinkerCAD, Netfabb, Simplify3D

Re: XYZCartridge resetter V2

I know about that one but its not standalone, my whole idea is based on that!

And please explain how is this not one Arduino?

They have several that in aqddition to the onein the device it has to be connected to a second Adruino for it to work. I thought those where the ones you wanted to stay away from, not Adruino period.

Considering most printer logic is Adruino and everyone has the software to deal with it, you will cause issue trying to move away from it. Why not stay with what works instead of reinventing the wheel?

Re: XYZCartridge resetter V2

I have to admit that I dont understand a half of your post so I will try to make myself clear... I already expained it twice, once in Oldsirhippy topic and once here but Ill do it again...

I want to avoid any connection to the computer because i dont like it. Display looks so much better solution. Unless there is a software that connects to your davinci printer and resets cartridge in the printer, i dont like it. And yes, why inventing something? If people didnt trying to do something, we would still live in a cave without internet, cell phones, facebook and 3d printers

Re: XYZCartridge resetter V2

@zet-jaro - the design in the following site is one I had considered making, but didn't like fiddling with small DIP switches! It is a nice compact design.
The settings available on the DIP switches offer a good range of temperature options and filament lengths.
The code included reads and actions the DIP switches and along with the Voltivo code would create a working system.

The site is in German but google translates it.

The DB idea seems a good one, however do all manufacturers achieve consistent results in their filament manufacturing?
Do you get what you pay for, and do cheaper filaments vary more than expensive ones?
If so it would create difficulties in a DB where one filament batch from a manufacturer may be very different to another batch.

I have no idea how much variation there is between batches from a manufacturer, and would be very interested to find out!

Re: XYZCartridge resetter V2

Hi Oldsirhippy,

there is no problem with german, I live in Germany smile

I know there are differences, thats why you can put manually parameters in EEPROM, so idea was to make two "modes": one that you can decide from DB and second would be manually, like some sort of a wizard step-by-step user enters values and at the end just flush them to EEPROM if he is satisfied with numbers smile

I hope I will upload some code soon smile

Re: XYZCartridge resetter V2

@zet-Jaro  So you would select the manufacturer, colour and type of filament (ABS, PLA etc.) from the LCD display and your system would determine the optimum bed and extruder temperatures for that filament?

An interesting project and I look forward to seeing your code.

Re: XYZCartridge resetter V2

I think that's not possible (or is it? I'm interested to hear any idea) but it sounds good big_smile

For example if you have 20 different filaments and only one cartridge, you can store their parameters in DB and than reset only this cartridge by choosing one of DB entries or manually directly to EEPROM using this standalone device.

Although this idea with automatic determination sounds really nice smile do you think its possible? I dont have so much experience but as I heard, same manufacturer and same color is more or less the same... or not?

Same brand and same color but different batch can have an optimal temperature deviation by as much as +/- 20 degrees based on my experience.  The biggest issue is some brands are now using recycled materials and even adding additives such as poly carbonate to ABS. What was once pure ABS and fairly standard settings would work on most vendors and colors no longer hold true and there is significant deviation.
