Topic: Still no news

I've been waiting on my printer to be returned 2 weeks ago they said on monday they would send me an email for shipping costs they sent it the friday after last Monday they called me to get the confirmation of payment number i had sent them the friday before and told me they would be shipping my printer out. and thats the last i've heard about them. Previously i've had a goodish experience with their help desk but now i think its gone to shit.

Sigh the past weekend i had it all to myself and would have had time to project and print unfettered by family and the fiance. and yes i'm frustrated as now i can't get in touch with a single one of the ...... in the place

Re: Still no news

That's terrible. I am lucky in that everything that has been wrong with my SD3 has been my own fault or something I can easily fix; I've never had to deal with Solidoodle's notoriously bad customer service.

Re: Still no news

This is getting so frustrating i wish they had someone i could speak to to find out where my fing printer is. I'm wondering if somehow they shipped it to someone else by mistake and they don't have the balls to fess up to screwing up.

Its not like i'm going to rip their balls off and make them eat them as prairie oysters....yet

Re: Still no news

The trick to dealing with Solidoodle, or any company that attempts to go silent for long periods of time is the threat of a chargeback.

Obviously this doesn't give you much leverage if you used your debit card because a lot of them have a no-chargeback policy tongue

Re: Still no news

I just received an email from solidoodle andit left me a little more than pissed off.

Last week over the phone i'm told my printer is fine after they changed out the board and tuned it up then i received this;
"HI %%%%%:

I have been informed that you will need a new power supply for your printer as well, this is why it has not shipped yet. Unfortunately, you will have to purchase the new power supply, as I have already offered the motherboard free of costs, which has a value of $$$$. The cost of a new power supply will be $$$$. I will send you a PayPal request to pay this amount. Please let me know when you have made this payment so that I may confirm and have your printer shipped out to you.

Best,
%%%%%l"

Is it to much for more of an explanation as to why the powersupply that was working last week isn't working this week?

Re: Still no news

wardjr brought it to my attention that those power supplies have weak solder joints at the AC power input side. Give it a good enough whack and the plug disconnects from the PCB. They just won't solder it back on because not doing so makes them money. I received an SD2 recently and the power supply was DOA for this very reason.

Don't pay for their junk power supply. Demand the printer back and go buy a SUPERNIGHT or an ATX power supply.

Re: Still no news

I'll will attempt to get it back and do my own power supply but i have the feeling they are hoolding my printer hostage. they have already sent a request for money

8

Re: Still no news

So the power supply worked when you sent it, they used it to power the machine, changed the board, got it working, then decided the power supply was bad?

Even if they comped you the board, they can't (from a legal standpoint) hold your printer without payment. They can return it to you without a new power supply, but there are a lot of laws in place to protect the consumer. You can also request that they return the broken parts to you, as they are yours even if they are broken.

Re: Still no news

i have finally gotten a tad more information.

Hi %%%%:

I completely understand your frustration, and apologize for any confusion. I was not stating that your power supply is damaged. Some of our Solidoodle 3 printers have the older motherboards, and some have the newer motherboards. I was not aware that your printer had the older motherboard, until I was informed about this by my service department. The new motherboard is not compatible with the old power supply, and given the fact that we have already offered you a replacement motherboard free of charge, which was a rare offer on our behalf, I can not offer you a power supply free of charge as well. This is why I have stated you will need a new power supply. No worries! I will have my shipping department ship you your printer as is, with the new motherboard along with the power supply that you sent. Upon receiving your printer back, you can decide whether or not to purchase a new power supply. I will provide you with a tracking number once one has been provided to me.

Here is the link where you can find, and purchase a new power supply, if you decide to purchase one.

150W Power Supply

Best,
%%%%

now seriously don't you think it would have been far better to lead off with that pitch first than decide to piss me off with the first

Re: Still no news

sounds a lot like a scam tactic... reminds me of the time when the hotend resistors failed after 18 days of service and they refused to cover it under any warranty and wanted me to send the whole printer back to them or buy an entire extruder and hotend assembly.

just get an ATX power supply. all the EVGA power supplies are on special these days, and the 400W model has a single 12V rail with 30A output; that's 360W of power for cheaps!! I just upgraded my SD2's power supply last week with this and it powers my PCB heat bed and heater cartridge hotend with no problems.

Re: Still no news

Well i finally got word that they are sending my printer back and it should be here tomorrow sigh frustrating

It has arrived and I am now running a few test prints. to be fair i just had a root canal so i probably won't be pleased by much

Well, I hope it cheers you up and makes you forget about the mouth pain instead of making your nerves inflamed with rage. wink

Re: Still no news

well its back and printing well for the most part but i noticed on th left hand side of the printer i was getting so raised areas on the prints. warping and curling i was hoping to get an idea of what it was and how to cure it. i'm printing pla at 200c wit the heat bed at 50c

Re: Still no news

bed slightly out of whack on that side? (possibly warped?)

maybe increase bed temp to 60C and see how that does?

Re: Still no news

Usually PLA is easier than ABS as it shrinks appreciably less. The round shapes should also be less prone. It's quite reasonable to expect to be able to print those in PLA as you're doing.

Observe the first layer as it goes on, checking it's consistent in appearance across the bed. You might see any warping this way too.

Then, 200C sounds a bit high for PLA on an SD3 hotend,  solidoodle recommends 185C for example.

Other things to check:
* Filament is dry
* Scrub that kapton clean!
* First layer is a bit more squished
* Try using a brim (though not ideal for the gears you're printing of course)
* Keep it cool in there - if the case is enclosed, open it up. PLA usually benefits from a nozzle fan to help things solidify a bit quicker

Gears look fun, making extruders? Enjoy!

Re: Still no news

i'm going to be building a 3d printer for my niece shes 15 this year. home schooled and studying engineering.

They asked her to an engineering program at the citadel

I'm building the tantilus for her i'm planning on using a j type hot end and when i build one for me i'm going to use the e3d lite

why because i want to know more about printers and figure i can learn by building one

Don't build it for her, build it with her! Working on a 3D printer with some one is a great way to learn.

If at all possible - involve her!

and just to toss it out there - I was printing with PLA very reliably at 165C (+/- a degree or two, depending on the color) with my stock SD hotend. ABS was around 185-190...

swapping over to the E3D, I am having to figure out temps all over again... LOL
