Topic: X Axis problem since Lawsy Carriage install

Hey everyone, finally got the nerve to change it. Well actually I was starting to have some circle issues with stock carriages. I had the bearings, shafts, and parts all sitting, just waiting for the day, well that was today.

I went the entire change over relatively decent. Some small minor issues but nothing that couldn't be handled. I get the printer all put back together and start it up, all good no problems looks good. Hit the home buttons, y works great, goes to the rear just under a quarter of an inch past were it used too, but doesn't hit anything, seems fine. Hit the z home button and it's about 3/8's on an inch short of being correct, no problem reset the z stop switch, and recalibrate the bed so it's level and it's all good. Hit the x home and that's were the fun begins, the end stop switch misses the carriage by about a quarter of an inch, so it sits there and tries to go home until I either hit the switch with my finger or hit the emergency stop button.

Just so you are aware, I am using the original stock extruder, which currently is being held onto the center carriage by a zip tie and to bolts just sitting in there to make sure it doesn't slide to the left or right (no big deal, looking for longer bolts) since the original bolts do not go all the way through the extruder and carriage. Right now the extruder is pretty damn solid surprisingly. My problem is the end stop switch. How do I correct this?

I am also posting pics of the problem plus the circle test I did after tweaking the belts and hitting the x axis stop switch by hand....lol

Just print a bracket or something to hit the switch... And install an mk5 as soon as possible wink

I would love to but I cannot find anything out there that fits. The mk5 jigsaw replacement? I think I'll have the same problem unfortunately. sad

Maybe I missed something here but the Lawsy Mk-5 or even the Mk-4 will fit and replace the acrylic assembly with no additional hardware needed.
The Lawsy carriages were designed to work with the Mk-4 or 5.
So you need to give more details as to why you can't use one.
A for a temp fix of the end stop use any piece of metal and fashion something up to get by until you can get an Mk-5 on there.

Re: X Axis problem since Lawsy Carriage install

Even with an mk-4 or mk-5 to replace the acrylic it will still miss the end stop, have one of each of them printed out already. It also makes the bolts needed to hold it to the center carriage even longer. The replacements (mk4/5) end about the same place as the wooden piece on the stock extruder missing the end stop. I don't know why or how that happened but it did...lol I currently have a zip tie on it around the wooden part and it's jury rigged for now, until I think something up for it, or someone has a better idea.

Re: X Axis problem since Lawsy Carriage install

There is supposed to be a bolt in the side of the Mk-5 that hits the switch.
There is no way things don't line up if assembled properly.  The switch holes are already provided on the right carriage.  Maybe I need some more pictures to understand what you have wrong.
It would be safe to say you will not find any other user with more understanding of Lawsy's designs other than Lawsy himself.

Re: X Axis problem since Lawsy Carriage install

AHHHH HA!

I was wondering what those extra holes were for.. I've never seen or noticed the bolt/screw in there for the spacing. Was driving me crazy as to why everything lined up but ended in the exact same place as the wooden piece on the stock extruder. I've been banging my head on the wall trying to figure that one out...lol Currently have it jury rigged to work , man is it quieter and moves a lot nicer..

Glad you got it figured out. Putting some lawsy carriages and precision 8mm rods in my printer either tomorrow night or over the weekend, I'm sure I would have made the same mistake if I didn't read this first big_smile
