Topic: Where to mount new Powersupply?

With changing my heater and upgrading to an E3D, I've ordered a suggested power supply

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009EI … &psc=1

But where should I install that, along with the SSD relays and heat sinks? They take up an enormous amount of space. I'd almost consider moving it all to a protected area under the printer. Behind seems to be awful exposed.

Re: Where to mount new Powersupply?

Talk to azerate, I think he posted his printer over in projects that has the PSU mounted on the back of an SD2.  It's crowded, but it works.  One thing that I have learned is when modding or building a printer, it is worth it to take the time the first time around to make the wiring tidy.  It is more inconvenient to do it twice.

I've got mine mounted to the back and it looks like it belongs there.http://soliforum.com/i/?xXZ9lPE.jpg

Re: Where to mount new Powersupply?

I made "Risers" and mounted them underneath . I use 2 power supplies 1 (30 amps) for heaters and 1 (12 amps ) for everything else. I also have built a remote control on / off power box ,and an independent monitoring system for both power supplies voltages and currents, bed and extruder temps as well as LEDs to indicate when SSRs are on. All of these are on Thingiverse. Enter  "divemasterbill"  in search bar (leave out "  ") these and some other mods will come up. any questions just ask.

Re: Where to mount new Powersupply?

I put everything on a plate, bolted to the bottom of the printer, and made a skirt thing to hold it off the desk and mount switches / connectors etc. in. Works pretty well, but if I did it again there would be a drawer and a few more connectors involved.

Re: Where to mount new Powersupply?

I'm hesitant to go to the back, because the filament mounts there (it's an SD4).

Under sounds good, but I'd rather have a sturdy stand.

I have the new power supply, two SSDs with giant heatsinks to mount. I almost want a separate box to sit under it.

putting it on the back seems possible. but ouch.

I used heat transfer compound( white stuff you see used in computers between CPU and heat sinks.)

Re: Where to mount new Powersupply?

I have my printer on a small cabinet and just screwed the power supply to the back. simple easy problem solving...

Re: Where to mount new Powersupply?

Well, along with the power supply there are the SSDs and stuff. And with an SD4 you have a fairly clean back with a good place to mount filament.

I've already got SSD heat sinks and stuff. Under it seems like a great place... assuming I can get something to mount it in. I'm really hesitant to have a lot of open wiring.
