Topic: Circle issues with 1.0 DaVinci

I can't get any circular prints, they all look off...

I checked every pulley, washer, and rod, they don't have any movement. I did have a print fail when I tested a while back with some glow in the dark filament and it jamed at the home axis, maybe that was the cause of something to break? My printer is always maybe 2mm off when it homes and cleans the nozzle? I was thinking it could be possible a backlash setting? Will post a pic on this next print and maybe someone has an idea smile

Re: Circle issues with 1.0 DaVinci

Have you checked the 4 bearing mounts ?
The stock mounts are poor quality and prone to cracking which causes oval circles.
I had to replace 3 of mine within weeks.

Yes, checked them all and no cracking or movement.
This is the best circle I can get..

Re: Circle issues with 1.0 DaVinci

You might want to shim the white pulleys.
I didn't think I had any movement in mine but I shimmed them anyway and it fixed my circles.

Re: Circle issues with 1.0 DaVinci

Have you also checked that both of your Y-carrages (left and right) are aligned to each other. If they are off even couple of notches of the belt it can also result in circles being ovals.

Re: Circle issues with 1.0 DaVinci

This is my issue right now. I replaced all of my bearing mounts yesterday and my Y-Axis needs more adjustment. I'm only off a few notches on the left side now. When I first put my machine back together, the carriage was stiff and didn't move as freely.

This is a classic symptom that they are misaligned as I came to find out.

Here is a long thread about it over at Voltivo: http://voltivo.com/forum/davinci-peersu … d?start=20

Re: Circle issues with 1.0 DaVinci

hmmm, doing another test print now. I can't fit a shim in any place...  Maybe i should order some new bearings as well, I don't see any that look loose?  I did have one print with glow in the dark filament get clogged while i was sleeping and it tried to home itself and got stuck clicking a while  back with a huge ball of filament. After that it was off by maybe 1-2mm on cleaning the nozzle when it would home itself. Maybe that caused a issue?

This. Probably the most overlooked issue with this printer.

Re: Circle issues with 1.0 DaVinci

Wow, did find one cracked bearing mount in the back right.. Do you know a place where I can order a metal mount or I guess ABS since I cant print a good one?

Re: Circle issues with 1.0 DaVinci

If you're in the UK, I have a couple of ABS mounts I printed as spares you could have.

Re: Circle issues with 1.0 DaVinci

I'm in Windsor, I can send two to you. You can PayPal me the postage.

I printed a bunch back when I first started using my machine.

They will require some finishing with a file though because they still have the raft debris on one side.

These are the ones I made: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:382437

Re: Circle issues with 1.0 DaVinci

Super glued it and placed it back in the printer! Will post the picture of the old print vs new in a second. Thank you so much for the help and offer. I didn't think it would work if I glued it but it was worth a shot! This shows how many problems a small amount of movement will cause in this printer...

Re: Circle issues with 1.0 DaVinci

Hopefully the glue will hold until you can make some replacements. I would make a replacement set right away.

I read about the poor quality bearing mount issue right after I got my printer so they were among the first things I made.

Re: Circle issues with 1.0 DaVinci

I overlooked that one crack, its crazy it's like that.  I wish someone made metal ones.. Thanks again for all the help, I printed one and since I'm home from my shift will print 4 more for spare. Any other parts you recommend to print?

Re: Circle issues with 1.0 DaVinci

Can I see what config works best for you for detail?  Mine is good but a little off, I printed a few of the parts you had lised.

Re: Circle issues with 1.0 DaVinci

I'm using Simplify3d with the default settings for the Da Vinci. I usually print at .2 layer height with two shells. When I use infill, it can be anywhere from 15% to 85% depending on how strong I need something to be.

If I'm printing something big or something that needs to be stronger outside, I print with three shells.
