Topic: Problem with USB on a Rumba board?

well, it seems we are destined to have USB problems.... first the original SD printerboard, now the replacement Rumba board...

ran multiple copies of a print yesterday with zero problems - changed colors multiple times, etc... no problems at all. None.

end of the day, shut everything down, put away the filament (was raining out), blah, blah...

this morning - fired up the computer the printer is run from, turned on the printer power supply and got an error message on the computer about a USB device not being recognized - what the...????

first thing I did was try a restart - it is an older computer running Win XP - no joy...

2nd thing I did was try to reinstall the driver - still no joy - restarted again... still no joy...

okey dokey, lets try another USB port - nope, no joy there either

time to try another computer... Toshiba laptop running Win 7 - install driver, plug in - same thing - USB device not recogized...

hunted around the house and came up with a different cable to try - a known good one from an external hard drive (i use the drive a lot so I know the cable is good) - still no joy.

really getting bummed here....

double checked all power connections, everything checks out fine power wise... 12.28 volts at the main power connection on the board, all connections are tight.

did notice that the leds for the rx/tx were lit up solid with the usb cable disconnected, and just flash back & forth repeatedly when it is connected...

anyone have any thoughts? has anyone else experienced anything like this with a Rumba?

about to go contact the retailer about it - supposed to have a 30 day warranty, and we havent hit 30 days yet....

kinda hard to do when it isnt being recognized by the computer...

anyway - it is on its way back to the vendor we bought it from. They will either fix it (if they can) or replace it.

Re: Problem with USB on a Rumba board?

Youd could solder a USB cable on to the board like I did. Link: http://www.soliforum.com/topic/10279/i- … s-crossed/

That'll only work if the chip isn't bad.  I will be doing a full right up on this issue in a couple of weeks.  Complete with alternative connection methods all the way to replacing the 16U2 chip.

@ Gglasky - Yeah, I saw that thread a while back - and tried doing simialr with the stock SD board with limited success...

This one was still in the warranty period, so taking advantage of that while we can. After talking to ward about it a bit, we think there may be some bad chips floating around on a few.

@ wardjr - looking forward to that writeup - I know we wont be so lucky with the warranty thing again. =P
