Topic: Flashing to Repetier Firmware?

Hello All

I've been pondering a switch to Repetier firmware. I currently run the latest XYZ firmware on my DaVinci 1.0 and I'm using Simplify3d as my slicer.

I've read both positive and negative results have been experienced by other users.

The main reason I want to swap firmware is so I can run more exotic filament such as clear. Repetier would allow me to bypass the optical filament sensor.

Anyone here use Simplify3d/Repetier on their DaVinci 1.0? If so, what has been your experience?

Thanks,

John

Re: Flashing to Repetier Firmware?

Well you have some options out there, I myself cannot flash my machine because I have the AIO so I'm installing the ED3 and to get around using clear filament there is a thread on here where you put electrical tape around the sensors.

Da Vinci  AiO with firmware 1.1.1 using xyzscan 1.1.18
E3Dv6 hotend with custom carriage with Borosilicate glass bed
123D Design and Simplify3D, Replaced PS with a Solidgear Flex320
Zerokart resetter,  Installed a Extruder Controller for higher temps

I posted about that myself a few days ago actually big_smile

I wanted to avoid going that route because I recently had to replace my extruder connector (E0011 error).

I didn't want to have to cut the wires to remove the extruder module to get at the sensor...

Having said that, I may end up doing it anyway to keep my current firmware intact if there is no real benefit in making the switch to Repetier.

My opinion no real advantage going to Repetier as far as quality of print.

Your already using Simplify3D which is the cream of the crop slicers.

If you just want to say by by to XYZ then go Repetier.

Actually there is an advantage and it does effect quality. If you flash then you also have the ability to adjust the steps per mm on all the axis and extruder. This will zero in your feed volume which on mine was off and it will allow you to adjust the x, y, z, so that 20mm on paper is 20 mm on the printer.  You can adjust acceleration and many other parameters you have no other way to access that are all firmware.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!

Re: Flashing to Repetier Firmware?

Ciao  PseudoShooter !

S3D checks the single user license when you run it.
It's well worth the price as they worked hard on this program to make it the best.

You can also cut the sensor wires that plug into the PCB board. In fact you don't even need the PCB board to have the extruder fuction. Just rewire the wires.

Re: Flashing to Repetier Firmware?

I removed my extruder assembly yesterday and taped the sensor.

It turns out that the heater wires are long enough that the job can be done easily on the top of the machine without having to disconnect (or in my case cut) the wires.
