Topic: what to do about sagging heat bed insulation?

this is on an SD4 - the fiberglass insulating mat on the underside of the heat bed has begun sagging, causing some issues with keeping consistant heat on the bed. I can use the putty knife/scraper to push it back up and it will stay for a little while (a couple of hours during printing) then start sagging again...

what can I do/use to stick it back on, or keep it in place better?

or is there a better alternative - short of replacing the bed?

I have a thin piece of scrap sheet metal that I used to sandwich the heater and insulation in place.

Re: what to do about sagging heat bed insulation?

I've used Kapton to wrap the whole bed, and hold the insulation in place before I got rid of all of that and went with a PCB heater.

To print or, 3D print, that is the question...

I wondered about using metal underneath. have plenty of scrap stuff around, may see what I can come up with

Thanks guys. smile

I have a thin piece of wood that I have been meaning to drill the holes out and put under my bed to hold the insulation up.  It will also provide some additional insulation.

thats a good idea, too. thanks.

I have some thin plywood, will have to see just how thin tho...using glass as a print surface it kinda takes away from the space between the frame & the underside of the bed.

may end up using some thin guage sheet metal like wardjr - less bulk...

could always lay up some regular fiberglass using resin and cut that to fit... LOL
